Perioral dermatitis...

I have what I’m sure is perioral dermatitis in the creases around my nose. It’s particularly sore on one side and sort of goes down my smile lines a bit. I also get rosacea & think these might be linked?? Has anyone had any success treating this? I’m thinking since it’s linked to rosacea to try my topicals on it? I have finacea & soolantra. It feels like it’s burning sometimes. I remember having it before & trying canestan cream which didn’t seem to do much....

I managed to treat mine with an antibiotic gel it’s from the GP. It’s the only thing that works as other creams steroid or anti fungal etc just make it worse. Mine is around my mouth but I have had it in the creases around my nose.

Hello, I used to get this as a teenager and it recently came back. I think it was triggered by mask wearing for extended periods making my skin all oily and germy.
I also had success mostly getting rid of it with extra washing and antibiotic cream from the GP. I'm trying to avoid places where masks are required but obviously that's not possible all the time.
Steroid cream triggers it in some people, so watch out for that.

@DuchenneParent - yes I was going to mention the mask wearing. My skin tends to get sweaty in them & I’m sure that doesn’t help.

@ilovebagpuss I have had a bit round my mouth but mostly mine tends to come up around the crease in my nostril. Weirdly just one side. It’s so sore it’s like it’s cracked skin.

Agree with PP’s suggestion of prescription antibiotic cream/gel from GP. Whatever you do avoid putting steroid on it as this can cause it to reflexively flare when steroids are stopped, causing a vicious cycle. There are also other topical actives which can help but for the moment I’d reign everything right back and use gentle products only in to repair skin barrier and allow topical antibiotics to do their thing. It can be tricky to get rid of and require a long course of treatment but don’t lose heart!

@ArmchairCritics - thank you, it’s not actually that unsightly just persistent. I’ve had it on & off for the last few years. I don’t use much on my skin anyway, just cleanse & moisturise. I don’t tend to moisturise where the PD is though. I might try my finacea on it. It’s Dr Sam Buntings topical of choice for PD, and see how i go x

you need to see a GP. Sometime, certaim topical creams sort it (I got rid by using a AB cream called Rosex iirc - it's prescription only).

take a couple of website links with you you. I had to see 4 different GPs. They just did not know what if was and prescribed cortisone/steroid cream each time which is something you absolutely mustn't use with PD. I went armed with website links and asked the GP to Google it in the end. I had it around mouth and eyes and looked horrific. and that convinced her to prescribe the antibiotic cream antibiotic cream. It's not something GPs tend to know as it is more dermatology stuff. good look.

No advice, but I know Maddie Moate (kids tv presenter) has this and has some good video content about how it impacts her life.

I watched Nadine Baggotts YouTube video on this and got the doctor to prescribe me Rozex. Completely stopped it.

I tried everything and it kept coming back until my GP prescribed Elidel cream which is an immunosuppressant. (Not a steroid - that’s the worst thing you can do!). I used that every time I felt it flaring up for about six months. I used Cerave cleanser and Ointment only and it hasn’t come back. (Also killed my rosacea too.)
