Talk to me about Olaplex

I have very dry hair. Its curly and almost shoulder length if I just wash it and dry naturally and it's dark brown with fair bit of grey! Am desperate for a cut and colour but obviously can't at the moment.
Is Olaplex good and what should I use? So many different products with different numbers!

Olaplex isn't a moisturising treatment. It re-bonds hair that has been damaged in a specific way - by the disulfide bonds being broken apart. The two most common way this happens is by bleaching or excessive heat treatment. When I say disulfide bond, I mean the structure of sulfur atoms that bind adjacent chains of keratin together. This is what a strong strand of hair is - a well bonded chain of chains of keratin.

For example, when you straighten hair, the way you do this is by breaking the disulfide bonds to reshape the chains into a straight line. Over time this permanently weakens the strand, unless you re-form the bonds with something like Olaplex, Innoluxe, or even to some extent coconut oil (for the protein).

If your hair is just dry, conditioners are a better bet.

Thank you. I do straighten sometimes so there is heat damage too. I've tried so many treatments and my hair just always looks dry and damaged.

Then try Olaplex #5 for now and use #3 after you have your next cut and colour.

Nosuchthingastoomuchcheese · 14/11/2020 11:20

Ok thanks so just the 5 one on it's own?

I've just ordered the no3 from Look Fantastic. My hair is curly, shoulder length and coloured. You can get a 20% discount from Look as a new subscriber. I'm intending to use it as an overnight treatment once a week.

jojomolo · 14/11/2020 12:08

Yes because if it does nothing for you none of the rest will as it's the one that hydrates and rebonds. So save your money and try #5 first.

To prevent further damage - #3 (as the poster above says, overnight) after colour treatments and a heat protector before any straightening.

(This is all assuming you have already done curly girl and it hasn't worked for you.)

Hi yes I did curly girl for about 18 months and generally my hair still looked crap.
