Winter skin

Hi , I have recently started a job in a nursery and due to Covid restrictions we are spending a lot of time outdoors.
I'm in Scotland so the weather is not great at this time of year!
My skin isn't usually delicate /sensitive at all , on the contrary it's normal/combination with no major issues.
Not sure if it's the cold/wind mixed with the mask going up and down constantly and maybe rubbing but my skin feels sore and burning in the evenings and quite pink on my cheeks. I wear serum/moisturiser then my usual base of foundation / concealer / cream blusher on top.

Can anyone recommend some products to either protect and/or heal my skin?
I've been looking at the Lumene advent calandra as I figured Nordic products might do the trick for cold weather ! and it could be a good way to try out the brand. Or maybe any other products/brands?

Thanks!

I absolutely love Lumene Arctic Hydra Care moisturiser. It is so protective. The best skincare product I've ever used. It sounds like it would suit you very well.

I've found good old vaseline has been helpful while wearing a surgical mask, and skipping make up.

Sounds like you need a barrier cream of some sort between your skin and the mask, but try vaseline first.

'my skin feels sore and burning in the evenings and quite pink on my cheeks'.

You're sure it's not a reaction/allergy to your mask or anything?

SophieGiroux · 13/11/2020 23:00

A good night cream will restore hydration overnight. I quite like Aldi's q10 one as it's quite rich but hasn't caused any spots!

Lurkingforawhile · 13/11/2020 23:02

Sounds like windburn. My OH gets that and then it turns into a rash. I think you need some barrier cream if so.

Thank you so much for the replies !

@jeremypaxo it was the Arctic range from Lumene that caught my attention. Good to know you love it

Excuse my ignorance but what kind of cream would be considered a barrier cream?

I had wondered about 8hr Cream? I would be very shiny but at this point I'm past caring !

I don't want the ruddy cheeks of an elderly farmer by Spring if I can help it!

I don't think it's an allergic reaction to the mask more the physical moving of it up and down coupled with the cold/wind. We take the mask off to talk to the children and then put it up to talk to each other so it's up and down constantly Hmm

8 hour cream might be useful at night but I always find it too sticky in the day! If you Google or search on Amazon for barrier cream you might be able to find one where someone has recommended it for windburn. I know our field teams use it at work but that's one provided through our PPE supplier so I don't know any examples I'm afaird.

diamondsandrose · 14/11/2020 14:37

I have ordered the Lumene advent calendar ( discounted on All beauty )
There's a few of the Arctic care creams in it which I feel might be useful !

Thanks for the link to the ceramide cream @QueenPaws it also sounds like the kind of thing I need

This might prove expensive!

I actually find using Savlon at night helps with that sort of thing.

IOwnDogsNotFrogs · 14/11/2020 17:18

Cica skin pastes can really help overnight. Boots do one in their Good Skin range that I use when my skin is suffering from the cold weather.

Girlintheframe · 14/11/2020 17:19

Ive been getting very sore skin. I've got to wear masks a lot due to my work. Last week it felt like it was on fire!
I stopped my active serums and just used Hyluronic acid with this on top www.boots.com/la-roche-posay/all-la-roche-posay-products/la-roche-posay-cicaplast-baume-b5-soothing-repairing-balm-100ml-10149155
Brilliant stuff!

Notajogger · 14/11/2020 18:14

Weleda skin food will do the job!

diamondsandrose · 15/11/2020 15:52

@Girlintheframe that looks just the job !

Yes was thinking maybe stop using any actives for a while too
I have a tiny weleda skin food , I might put it in my coat pocket for tomorrow and dab some on

Better than LRP Cicaplast (which is a bit pasty) is Avene Cicalfate. It was recommended to me by a dermatologist for winter skin and really does the trick.
