Help me with my skincare routine... Loads of products, not sure what to use

Hi, I'd really love some help with skincare, I've bought loads of different products over the past year or so but I'm not sure what order or frequency to use them with, when, and how etc. Total overwhelm.

My skin is prone to sagging, spots, slight roughness and sebaceous filaments. Also fine lines and wrinkles of course...

I have the following:

Oil cleanser with rosehip
Cerave SA face wash (salycilic and HA)
Peptide serum
Glycolic acid toner
Niacinamide and zinc
Rosehip facial oil
Jojoba oil
Alpha H liquid gold
Ginvera marvel gel (contains AHA)
Moisturiser containing hyaluronic acid
Eye cream with soy peptides and arnica

Thanks

Step 1: cleanse
Oil cleanser with rosehip OR
Cerave SA face wash (salycilic and HA)

Step 2: tone
Glycolic acid toner

Step 3: treat
Eye cream with soy peptides and arnica
And 2-3 serums of choice out of your list

Step 4: occasional treatments
Rosehip facial oil
Jojoba oil

Step 5: moisturiser and sunscreen (AM)

Have a look at Pampered Wolf on YouTube, she has recently done a video about skincare routines for autumn/ winter using all your products ( not all at the same time)

Girlintheframe · 11/11/2020 17:22

I always double cleanse so
Oil cleanser first to remove make up/spf
Cerave face wash

Glycolic toner if you want

Eye cream
Moisterizer
Oil

Best thing is to experiment and find what your skin likes best

Girlintheframe · 11/11/2020 17:24

Actually lky you might want to skip the glycolic as your cerave already has SA in it. Too many acids might irritate your skin

nanbread · 11/11/2020 17:47

Thanks!

The thing about the cerave wash is will it exfoliate properly given I'm washing it off after a few seconds?

Yep, that’s how all exfoliating cleansers work

You have a glycolic acid toner and Alpha H Gold, which is also glycolic acid, and a cleanser with acids in it, and the Marvel gel with more AHA ... you run the risk of seriously overwhelming your skin. Do you have an idea of why you've bought the products, what do you want them to do for you? Have you looked for example at the dedicated skincare threads, there's lots on info there about an ingredient-based approach to skin care.

A serious question is - do you have a sunscreen? If you're using active ingredients like acids you need to protect your skin from the sun. Sunscreen is also your best insurance against the aging process.

Oil cleanser loosens and removes makeup and sunscreen.
Foaming wash removes the last bits of dirt. Can be used as only wash in the morning.

In the evening you can use a glycolic toner once a week for starters. Be on the lookout for over-exfoliation signs. If all is well you can go up to twice a week maybe.

After that products go on from thin to thick. It helps if you test them one by one to see if you get an effect from them, after that you can use what you like.

@banivani thanks, I've been attracted to acid products because they have been the only thing that seems to stop me getting so many spots and also leave my skin smoother, it's prone to getting very flaky (despite also being oily 🙄)

I don't use them regularly, at one point I used my glow toner a few times a week but now I'm using the wash more, I've stopped using it - maybe now once a week max.

I bought the wash to try to reduce pore size and congestion on nose and chin. It was recommended on here that I go for SA, and the niacinamide - but I've not been consistent with that.

The more natural products were me trying to use fewer chemicals on my skin, but when I stopped using any acid my skin got pretty dull and rough.

My moisturiser has factor 30 in and I also use a BB cream sometimes which is factor 25.

Using a dedicated sunscreen is best!

banivani · 15/11/2020 20:52

@nanbread ah sorry, sounds like you're being pretty responsible about it :)

Niacinamide is a great ingredient IMO but if it's The Ordinary you're using I find their quality inconsistent.

I don't rate acids in a face wash really, it does get pretty much washed off, but if it's giving results ...

nanbread · 15/11/2020 21:00

Thanks @banivani is a valid point. I don't think I had really clicked hope many acid products I owned!

The niacinamide is by Superdrug?! A brand called Me+. No idea of quality. It was more expensive than the ordinary. Contains 10% and 1.5 zinc.

I don't know that one (am not in the UK) - but if you read through the dedicated skincare threads I wouldn't be surprised if it hasn't been mentioned. www.mumsnet.com/Talk/style_and_beauty/4018138--Fantastic-Skincare-Jump-through-flaming-hoops-repeat-Beauty-is-Pain-and-acces-to-this-thread-will-be-unlocked Links to all the threads in the OP!

If you're being erratic about using products you won't really see results or be sure about the results you are seeing to be frank. I should know, because that is how I operate Grin

Girlintheframe · 16/11/2020 06:57

If your skin is flakey I'm wondering if it's dehydrated. You can be oily and dehydrated at the same time.
A good Hyluronic acid plus a gel type hydrating moisture might be a good idea.
I don't have this skin type so don't know to much about it but there are plenty of you tube vids

Girlintheframe · 16/11/2020 06:59

Should have added, (you prob know this already) but the more you dry your skin out with acids the more oily it will become.
Better to use something gentle but that won't strip the skin like SA/LA etc
