So in summer I had a slight hair disaster from my natural hair colour which is dark blonde/mouse to a sort of brown colour - really nice and I love it. I've recently seen this below and would love it - to give it richness, opinions:-

Looks lovely! I'd love dark hair but alas I shall remain an albino with no eyebrows 😂

LOL. I spent years highlighting my hair to hell Hmm not realising it didn't look great - I either look good almost very blonde (not platinum but golden) or darker! Or copper. I'm pleased I don't have to commit to highlights anymore but think was blinded to them suiting me!

I think I'm kind of in the same boat. I don't think I particularly suit my natural hair colour (very blonde) so have always toned it down with lowlights. Have tried numerous times to go brunette or auburn and it just fades Sad

Who is Camila Morrone? she has my hair, except I have a fringe.

Yep, its difficult to maintain though. I'm naturally dark with a lot of red in it, so I end up with highlights in the sun and it naturally lightens through the lengths. Its long. However, I have started getting grey in there, so now in order to maintain it as close to my natural I have to dye the roots every six weeks, and put highlights through it every 6 months. And I think you'll have a similar problem because you will need to always do your roots and if you use a permanent colour you'll have to keep topping up the highlights. I don't think its easy to maintain. Its a bane of my life.

My hair is naturally dark and I've had lots of caramel highlights of different tones.
No only was it quite hard on my hair but as PP said it was hard to maintain.
They look fab when they are first done but invariably fade, become brassy, lack gloss. I found them hard work tbh. I struggled with the 4 hours in the hairdressers then having to top up with toners, roots etc.
But it may be just me as I'm not good with hair and don't have the time/money.

You need a very good colorist! I luckily found a great independent salon where they've won awards for their colour (not 1st or 2nd but definitely won awards) - I've had it darker than my own colour and slightly redder too.

I'd advise you have a proper consultation with one (after lockdown) and say exactly what you would like. Maybe they could do something with your very blonde colour?

My darker hair appears to be lasting now - I think this is because the previous colorist in the summer ruined it by putting bleach on it - thankfully not scalp so it has something to cling onto. I'd want the chocolate cake colour to add more depth to it - a bit like lowlights.

I think most of those pictures also have highlights in. I have naturally dark brown hair but I have it coloured at the hairdresser due to greys but similar to my natural colour. This time I had some caramel highlights put in to achieve the sort of look you are going for and I’m not sure they are the right colour. I think it’s quite hard to get the right look, either that or I need a new hairdresser.

Bugger! I don't want highlights again.

I'll ask my colourist when I go back to the salon - she really is a miracle worker!

Most of those photos are of balayage which can be pricey

gindinner · 12/11/2020 14:01

I have hair like that. My hairdresser did a balayage with shades of copper am
Nd dark brown after the first lockdown ended to cover up my botched up attempts at covering grey roots. I love it.
