Non underwired bras for those big of boobage?

Are these a good idea? I’m a 44F (properly fitted) and after yet another bra wire popping through the fabric I’ve started wondering if I’d be better going for the non underwired option.
I’m 50 now but I remember how comfortable pregnancy and breastfeeding bras were because they weren’t underwired.
I’m not afraid to wear big pants so non underwired bras could be the next step

God if you find one I want to know. I am fitted as a 36gg but can t get a bra that doesn’t poke me under the arms.

SuperSange · 09/11/2020 03:04

I find Molke amazing. So comfortable!

JudgeRindersMinder · 09/11/2020 03:12

@SuperSange I’m off to google them!

Exact same problem, 38H and poked under the arms too

KihoBebiluPute · 09/11/2020 04:03

I am 36GG and always go for non underwired. Bravissimo have several good ones and so do M&S. The key thing is to get used to adjusting the shoulder straps to tailor the shape to you, and mastering the leaning-forward to hoik the boobs into place. Underwired bras always end up misbehaving for me because while they sit properly when you are standing straight in a fitting room, they don't respond well to a day of wearing that includes eg carrying shoulder bags, slumping on a sofa for a bit, being in various positions for different activities - with underwired I would get rubbed raw patches of skin where the wires dug in where they weren't wanted.

M&S

I like this one but make sure you get the relief strap bra as there are different ones

Caeruleanblue · 09/11/2020 04:15

Diffent Claras

IndieTara · 09/11/2020 08:16

I always worry about bra straps you can't adjust

Caeruleanblue · 09/11/2020 08:29

Actually it was the Clara Comfort Bra, not the relief strap bra,
It does have adjustable straps. And is a bit cheaper.
But Anita bras seem to last very well.

M&S minimiser bra is brilliant. It’s the speckled black and white one that also comes in black and white too. I’ve spent YEARS looking for a comfortable DD + bra and this it! Ps I don’t usually like M&S bras, I find them cheapy and poorly made etc. This was the exception!

dementedpixie · 09/11/2020 14:09

Who were you fitted by and what dress size are you?

Lindy2 · 09/11/2020 14:28

I desperately needed some new bras but was really struggling as I need to try them on first and I can't do that at the moment due to Coronavirus. Even with proper measuring I always end up with a different size to what the tape measure says.

In desperation I bought a non underwired bra from Sainsburys that is in a stretch material. It doesn't even have actual cup sizes just S, M, L , XL.

It is actually really very comfortable and fits and supports really well. I've been very impressed and got a couple more.

I'm not sure how long the stretch material will last as I find elastic weakens over time but hopefully they will see me through until normal fitting can take place again. I'm definitely done with underwire now and will choose comfort from now on. A bra should be able to fit and support well without uncomfortable bits of wire.

lemorella · 09/11/2020 14:39

Freya - deco - no wire and hold everything up nicely.

I find for some reason lots of big bras with no underwire also have no sort of padding as if bigger breasted women don't care if nipples show through (I do).

Alternatively why don't you just go for a maternity bra, they come up in big sizes and have all the requirements you're after....

JudgeRindersMinder · 09/11/2020 15:34

@dementedpixie

Who were you fitted by and what dress size are you?
I self measured using the MN method a few years ago, and have re checked it as my weight fluctuates-it’s been a total game changer

Have a Google of boot or bust. Theres a calculator for checking your measurements and also a Facebook page with lots of really helpful info and suggestions. If the wire keeps popping through its very likely because its not the right size.

PeppaPigMakesMeGrrrrr · 09/11/2020 15:50

Molke all the way! Can take a few attempts to get the right size but their returns policy is excellent and they do klarna so you can order lots of sizes and only pay for the ones you keep. I love them, can you tell?!
Molke, Molke, Molke! GrinGrinGrin

LividLaughLurve · 09/11/2020 15:51

Molke.

Legit I’m scared to have to wear underwires again and I’m in the region of a K cup.

JudgeRindersMinder · 10/11/2020 01:25

Thanks for all the suggestions and advice 😊

I’m now wearing the first non underwired bra I’ve had since I was about 14 (excluding pregnancy/breastfeeding).
I started at the cheap end with Marks&Sparks. Comfort wise it’s off the scale, which is fantastic, but shape wise, not so good. I’ve gone from having boobs to having a “bosom”, which I’m less sure about...Confused

Craftycorvid · 15/11/2020 22:42

Yes, Molke! Soooo comfortable and great support (I run in mine - FF cup).

BexR · 15/11/2020 22:55

I found I couldn't stand wired after maternity and breastfeeding. It was just too uncomfortable.

I have M and S sumptuously soft bras. I find them really comfy. The shape is ok, I often have to tighten the shoulder to hoick them up a bit. I'm a 34 DD though so bigger boobs might have a different story!
