Talk to me about morganite rings

So my engagement and wedding rings got lost a while back. Long story.

Anyway, we'd like to replace them but we don't have the money for expensive diamond rings and tbh I'm not bothered enough to spend that much. I'd rather a lovely new sofa. 😄

I've been looking at morganite and really like the pale peach stones. They're also much much cheaper than diamonds.

I would want a single stone in a plain white gold setting. I think platinum is out of our price range although I would prefer this but I'd have to get a platinum band too in that case.

Has anyone got a morganite ring who can show me theirs or suggest UK sellers?

I have found a lovely seller on Etsy from Thailand. Really good prices and excellent reviews but I'm a bit nervous.

Help!

An independent jeweller should be able to source this sort of thing for you. Or have one made. Morganite is gorgeous!

Belfastian · 08/11/2020 17:03

I agree with PP, an independent jeweller can make you one within your budget. I have a beautiful ring that was made to DH specifications and budget.
If you are in NI I can recommend a jewellers and a jewelry maker. If not, get on Google and find yourself a local jeweller with an inhouse workshop.
Morganite is fabulous.

I have a beautiful morganite ring, I’ve had it for years and can’t quite remember where I bought it. My wedding ring is rose gold (it was my Great Grandma’s) so we got it in rose gold to match, with a diamond halo. I seem to remember it being around £2k.

Possibly a silly question but have you checked if your household contents insurance will cover replacing them?

Dowser · 08/11/2020 17:29

Palladium is slightly cheaper than platinum and looks exactly the same
I don’t like white gold as it’s rhodium plated and it can wear off, so the. Your ring has to be redone and I didn’t want to remove it.,
I had my ring made specifically to my own design, with a 1/3 carat diamond and 2 small black diamonds ..in the shape of an eye
I love it and never tire of it.

I agree about not getting white gold. The quality really caries and if you are on a tight budget you are likely to end up with the type that need re plating. Rose gold would be a great alternative.

gimmearing · 08/11/2020 18:25

Thanks everyone. I did think about rose gold but I mostly wear silver so will think about palladium instead.

Ordinarily I would be visiting jewellers but I suspect it'll be a while before I can/will want to be doing that so thought I'd try online.

It's such a lovely stone, I'm really excited.

I had thought about an insurance claim but I don't want our premiums to go up. Also I don't exactly know what happened to them, we think they were accidentally thrown away when I'd taken them off plus we don't have receipts. It all seems a bit complicated and I'm not sure I can be bothered!

The Etsy shop ‘TheAladdinsCave’, I hope that is the correct spelling...
Has lovely rings, I’m sure I’ve seen morganite on there before.
I have some eternity rings from there

MrsHuntGeneNotJeremyObviously · 08/11/2020 19:06

I'd definitely claim if you can and if the rings were valuable. That's what insurance is for and it might be the difference between being able to afford platinum or palladium

Have you looked at the Tru diamonds site....lab grown etc...not cubic zironia...lots of offers at present...meant to look very real as not the usual super bright fake stones but more authentic looking !

cretelover · 08/11/2020 19:12

I've bought a diamond ring from tru diamonds - was really impressed with it, have it about a year now and still looks good.

Kay1341 · 08/11/2020 19:13

This is mine, it's morganite and 18ct rose gold with a meadow grass band. The jeweller makes bespoke ones like mine, the original is gold (so you could easily swap it):

Palladium price is sky high at the moment as is 18 ct gold-believe it or not platinum is cheapest!

BluSpider · 08/11/2020 20:15

Morganite is lovely but much softer than diamond. It’s not suitable for everyday wear for 50 years.
