Is Seasalt worth the price?

AcornAutumn · 07/11/2020 17:06

I’m mostly at the price range of Asda.

I’ve been looking at some seasalt sale stuff, even at the sale price, it’s more than I’d normally spend. Just eyeing up a couple of tops.

What do people think? Do they wash and wear well?

Thanks.

I have only bought a raincoat from them many years ago. It is still as good as the day I bought it.

scentedgeranium · 07/11/2020 18:14

it is good quality, just slightly ubiquitous where I live (Cornwall!!). But as an example I've had a warm raincoat of theirs for about 6 years and it's still my trusted dog walking coat. Quite excellent

@Londonmummy66

Nice fabrics and well made and wash well. However if you are well endowed in the chest area they are not a great cut - I find that most of their tops and dresses hang straight down off my boobs.....
I'd disagree slightly, some stuff does look dreadful for the larger boobed, but other stuff can be really nice
Craftycorvid · 07/11/2020 18:23

Oh and their Breton tops are good quality too (yes, I know - MN cliche). Grin

ah, that's interesting.

the trouble with that is I often find I have to go for a size up and it ends up loose at the shoulders - it depends what the item is but generally I try to avoid that.

My auntie has kindly given me an M&S voucher but I had been eyeing up Seasalt. So I was thinking I could get some basics from M&S - the necessary stuff if you see what I mean, like basic T shirts - and a couple of more interesting things from Seasalt.

I can find a couple of really nice things on M&S but they're only in size 8 which is not me!! Sadly.

Yes. I have a few things from there. Never been disappointed with the quality.

BoboGoTo · 07/11/2020 18:34

I have a couple of coats which are still going strong a few years down the line.

I also love their t-shirts (long and short sleeved). No other brand compares for durability I've found.

AcornAutumn · 07/11/2020 18:39

I'll give them a try then.

I haven't actually found cheaper stuff to be that bad - some of it I've had for years and I normally do a black machine dye on black stuff to revive it.

I just thought it was time I livened up my stuff a bit and I haven't bought anything new for so long, my mother, sister and best friend are still muttering "we'll believe it when we see it". Grin

I love seasalt tunics and shirts but their dresses don't suit me as my large bottom means the back of the dress is much shorter than the front, I don't have that problem with any other brand of dress.

As much as I like their tunics, they are not brilliant quality. The colour has run on a couple of items, I've had a new shirt arrive with a missing button hole and another with missing button.

tinytemper66 · 07/11/2020 19:00

I bought a blouse/top from Seasalt 3 years ago and it is like new.

NanooCov · 07/11/2020 19:46

@N0tfinished - thank you for the link to their eBay sales. I had no idea that existed and will probably do some damage to my bank balance later Grin

MikeUniformMike · 07/11/2020 19:50

It is good quality. Not normally my cup of tea I thought, but I ventured into a shop to get something for my mother, and was impressed. It keeps it's value quite well, so I'd check the shop/website for sale stock as the ebay stuff isn't necessarily cheap.

One thing I noticed (not that I needed to) is that they go up to size 26.

MikeUniformMike · 07/11/2020 19:55

Nomads and Joules are a bit like Seasalt.

N0tfinished · 07/11/2020 20:19

Always pleased to enable!!!

WhentheDealGoesDown · 07/11/2020 22:19

I find they wash really well and look new for ages, it’s worth looking in Next Clearance, Harts of Stur and John Lewis for Seasalt as they sometimes have good reductions in their sales. Harts of Stur have some reduced at the moment

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 07/11/2020 22:40

Has anybody got any boots from them? I've fallen a little in love with a pair on the website.

WhentheDealGoesDown · 08/11/2020 09:02

Remus. I have 3 pairs of ankle boots from there, they are really comfortable and I find them better quality than M&S and Next where I have other boots from but they are more expensive, all mine have been bought in the sale, I am eying up the flat knee length ones at the moment.

TheSeedsOfADream · 08/11/2020 09:29

I have the Breton in every style and colour. (Sorry, been on MN since 2004 what can I say? Grin)
My oldest ones, just starting to look tired are from about 6 years ago and in spring and summer they get some hammering.
The quality isn't Joules (for example) but it's 100% better than Boden which these days, for tops is, IMO, worse than Asda and Sainsbury's etc.

Just a word of warning if you're tall- the longer line tops are a strange length. I'm 5ft 10 and they just look silly on me. Like a long t shirt rather than a "tunic" style.

Thisbastardcomputer · 08/11/2020 09:31

Yes definitely I'm a recent convert, bought a few summer items and just bought the Janelle coat to be my new dog walking coat, I was using an M& S down coat or a Joules raincoat I was happy with neither, but very happy with the Janelle

BestIsWest · 08/11/2020 10:45

I’m tall too (5’10) and sometimes have trouble with their lengths. The Bretons, T shirts and tops are all too short for me.

AcornAutumn · 08/11/2020 10:46

I’m 5” 1!

I'm adding to the 'love Seasalt' crowd on here.

I have a long waterproof coat - so cosy and dry - even in really grim weather. And the hood stays up....fab

Also one of their gorgeous stripey jumpers. It was v. expensive, but washes well and is still going strong.

WhentheDealGoesDown · 08/11/2020 10:55

I am also 5'10 and just bought the Oak Plant Hunter coat in tall and the dark orange trousers, both a lovely fit. I buy the tunics that are quite long but not the hip length tops as they are too short for me, I have a long body and long arms and 33 inch legs.

AcornAutumn They do petite in some styles, you can only buy tall online, I'm not sure if petite is in their shops or just online.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 08/11/2020 12:25

Thanks, WhentheDeal.

I've just made my first Seasalt purchase, other than a bandana. It's the lightweight waterproof coat in black, and I'm really pleased with it, although haven't yet had chance to wear it.

LargeProsecco · 08/11/2020 18:34

They have some petite ranges too.
