Hair mask - better results with wet or dry hair?

Which do you find best? I normally use Olaplex or Garnier or Philip Kinglsey which I am not so keen on as it makes my hair greasy .

I usually put it on overnight and have tried on dry and damp hair but not noticed a huge difference.

What do you find gives the best results?

I've not tried try hair, always damp for me. Maybe leave it on for less time if it leaves your hair feeling greasy?

*dry hair

If I'm doing an overnight hot oil leave- in deep conditioning treatment, I apply to dry hair. If it's a shop bought/conditioner type mask I always apply after shampooing so my hair is wet Smile

Comb through with wet brush. So damp.

Washing hair with warm water opens the cuticle and allows the conditioner (or dye if you use direct dyes) to be better absorbed. I like washing with warm water, wrapping hair in a towel off the radiator and waiting 10 mins or so then applying the conditioner and piling it on top of my head then putting a nappy sack/ large dog poo bag over it, with a cap on or my hood up if it's cold to keep in the heat. I keep it on for hours, walk the dog and everything! Just make sure it doesn't dry out and go all crispy, it's not doing the job if it goes like that.

Olaplex has to be damp hair. It won’t work when the hair is dry.

PurpleDaisies · 06/11/2020 22:44

I use olaplex and leave it on for about 40 minutes to an hour on damp hair. That makes a huge difference to mine. I didn’t see any extra benefit leaving it on longer.

Elasticizer says to put it in damp hair. I once tried on dry shade it. was not as good

I’ve just bought an Olaplex 0 and 3 set. The instructions on the box said to apply 0 to dry hair for 10 mins then put on the 3 and leave that for 10 mins. I followed the instructions and my hair looks and feels the best I’ve seen it for many a year. I don’t know about the other numbers in the range but I’m going to keep doing as it recommends.

Olaplex isn't a conditioning treatment, it's a bond repair treatment for damaged hair (due to bleach/ heat etc) there's no benefit to leaving it on over night it's not effective after so long (can't remember the exact time, think it's around the 40 minute mark)
For conditioning, I like the garnier ones, smell lovely and leave your hair nice and soft. Use on wet hair and squeeze it in well, stick a shower cap on and leave in overnight (or all day as nothing much to go out for at the minute!)

Nadine baggot has recently done a full olaplex review on YouTube which is worth a watch.

Thank you all, lots to look into and think about here. The Olaplex 0 adn 3 looks interesting too.

I’m really impressed with the olaplex 0 and 3. I’ve got thin, very brittle and dry hair thanks to menopause coupled with a collagen disorder. After one treatment it’s made my hair feel soft, shiny and look thicker. I know hair is dead so any treatment is probably only cosmetic but if it looks and feels better that will do for me.

Ive tried Aphogee two step treatment once a month since March and I like it but it doesn’t make my hair look as good as the olaplex. I’ve tried Philip kingsley elasticiser which didn’t do much for me and various Aveda masks too.

I have used Olaplex 3 but I think I am going to try the 0 and then 3 but then I see that they also do a shampoo and conditioner - it will cost a fortune lol.
