Lip fillers - how long to give them before deciding to keep or dissolve them?

I'm booked in for a lip filler consultation in a few weeks time with a provisional appointment booked to get the actual fillers if it turns out I want them (I'll just use it for another treatment I've had before if I don't). I was wondering if I should book another provisional appointment for a week or so after though in case they don't suit me and I want them dissolved. Or will that be too much or too little time? Anyone had it done? I'm going for a very subtle effect on my top lip only so I'm hoping it won't be a disaster but you never know what you will ultimately end up suiting and not suiting!

Lip fillers don't really settle until a week after, so you won't have time to get used to them in a week. They can be really swollen at first.

Oh god really, is that most commonly the case?

Yes, that's normal for lip fillers. It sounds like you don't really want to go ahead? Most people don't plan on getting them with the idea in mind to get them dissolved unless something goes wrong. Mine went wrong once and I simply made an appointment for the nurse to dissolve them the week after.

No, I do really want to try it - I'm just worried there will be a weird ridge. The doctor I'm going to has a great reputation and has done loads of other treatments for me that all went well. I'm just aware that with lockdown it can be harder to get appointments as they're working with fewer staff etc (but are still open as I'm in Scotland). I think now is the ideal time to try them though- I don't have any social events that would need to be cancelled if I don't suit them!

I went for a consultation on Tuesday and ended up deciding to do it there and then. Like you I just wanted my top lip done so went for 0.5ml. The first 24 hours I wasn’t pleased at all as they were pretty swollen and looked really big, so I spent time researching how to get the dissolved. It turns out it comes with its own risks and some practitioners say to let them dissolve naturally if you can. Although lots of people get them dissolved with no problems. I’m 48 hours on now and the swelling has gone right down, and although there’s a little bruising, make-up covers it well. I’m actually really pleased with how they look now!

That's encouraging Shouldbworkin! Although worrying that dissolving them comes with their own risks. I presume they're really natural looking?

I had lip filler dissolved; no side effects from the hyalase.

It would be best to wait a few weeks between the administration of filler and dissolving it as your lips are still healing. You probably could get the filler dissolved immediately (as in there isn’t a medical contradiction) but it wouldn’t be advised. It would certainly be more painful if you only leave a week between appointments as you will place injections into tissue that is already bruised/swollen.

In my experience it takes a month to see the true shape of your lips after filler. Yes, the initial swelling will subside within 2 weeks but your lips will continue to change slightly

That's reassuring about the dissolving Throwaway - and I'm booked in for 2 weeks after the filler appointment so that will hopefully be good timing if I need it.

A month is a long time though! I have almost no top lip at all except for my cupid's bow so I'm hoping I'll get a visible but subtle result even with only a little filler.

I think you’ll really like the results of your filler, especially as you only want a subtle change! It’s when lips are taken too far, too soon with bad practitioners where problems tend to arise.

Really hope you like your results and don’t need to dissolve it! It hurts like a bitchSad

Shouldbworkin · 11/11/2020 19:23

I had no top lip either, apart from when I smiled. Now the swelling has gone down (it’s been 8 days) I am so pleased I did it. It’s quite subtle so nobody realises I’ve had it done but they notice something is different. I absolutely notice the difference myself. Hopefully they won’t change too much over the next few weeks. Will definitely be going back when needed.

Thanks Throwaway!

Really glad you got a good result Shouldb! Very reassuring and sounds like just the kind of result I'd be delighted with too!
