Layering serums - help!

Hi,

I just don't know where to start with it really. Tried researching, but it can be quite confusing and somewhat daunting.

I have recently started using vit c serum (the ordinary) but find it makes my face feel very tight and a bit dry. I like No7 p&p serum and think it feels much nicer on the skin. Can I put this on top of the vit c? I can't say I've noticed much, if any, difference to my skin using the vit c serum alone, but was powering through, due to all the claims.

What ingredients can you/can't you mix? Feel like a need a boost.

36 and my skin is really starting to feel a bit dull and.... meh.

TIA

Vit C iirc not with retinols. That's why they advise C in the morning and A/retinols in the evening. Though C is also to stop environmental damage etc so stands to reason to use it am.

I use N7 on top of it. I think as long as there are no actives in the other serum it doesn't matter (but may be wrong)

Put moisturiser over the vitamin c serum x

General consensus on The Ordinary vitamin C seems to be that people don't really rate it. Have you read the dedicated skincare threads? There's a lot to power through there, but there's a lot of info on vitamin C serums too. Your other serum should be fine to use on top, there are a few things that can "clash" in products but you need to really do your research on that. One tricky thing for daytime use can be that different silicones lie badly on each other and they'll "pill", making makeup impossible.

Thanks for all the replies.

I have to say, I am not blown away by The Ordinary vit c serum. Goes very soapy on the skin, but more importantly, I haven't noticed a difference!

Water based serums first, then gel, then oil based. Essentially you apply from lightest to heaviest.

I haven’t tried either of the products you use so can’t really comment on what order. I use:

  • Kiehl’s super serum (basically a hyaluronic acid serum)
  • Kiehl’s clearly corrective serum
  • Inkey list vitamin c

Try something like Timeless Vit C serum. Its very light but very effective, quite a watery serum so goes nicely under other products.
