Toast silk velvet robe, worth it?

Hello, I've never bought anything from Toast before now but I'm coveting one of their Silk velvet robes, they are eye wateringly expensive at £325 😱.

Soooo has anyone bought one and did you think the quality and cut was worth the price? Tia!

Sorry I can’t answer

But it made me feel better about coveting this one

I bought my friend a £60 kimono from this place for her birthday, it’s definitely lovely but I don’t have this kind of budget 😂

PresentingPercy · 03/11/2020 00:37

I buy from Toast quite a lot but always in the sales! Can you hold your nerve and wait?

katy1213 · 03/11/2020 00:50

Think of it with toast crumbs and a few marmalade splodges down the front.

dopenguinsdance · 03/11/2020 01:06

I had one & also wore it till it wore out! Replaced it with simplicity pattern 8800 (£10) made up in the same fabric - a deep blue silk velvet (@£26 a metre- takes up to 3m depending on fabric width).

BringMeTea · 03/11/2020 06:36

Oh how impressive penguin. I love that robe. I so wish I had some skills!

Countmeout · 03/11/2020 06:45

The Tom Dick and harry one linked makes the Toast one look cheap! 😂 you might be better asking on the Toast thread, someone may confess they have it. I don’t but it’s on my wishlist.

joystir59 · 03/11/2020 06:52

That gown is 80% viscose, 20% silk so no from me.

OhTheRoses · 03/11/2020 06:55

I have been wondering the same.

Me too. It’s a total piss take. Toast isn’t what it was.
Goingdooolally · 03/11/2020 09:09

I have the velvet silk jumpsuit and it’s gorgeous. But that price is shocking. If you can risk losing out, wait for the sale.

dopenguinsdance · 03/11/2020 10:39

BringMeTea Have a go. Someone you know might have a machine you can borrow or there'll be a local studio offering lessons. it's a really simple pattern, just straight seams and you can do a grown on collar (just tape the collar pieces to the body and cut as one piece) if you're worried about fitting one. No zips or buttonholes! I agree tho it looks very luxe, the fabric is pretty cheap compared to the finished article- but 'real' silk would fall apart very quickly and would be a nightmare to wash.

Wagsandclaws · 03/11/2020 17:06

Sadly I can't sew for toffee Grin I'm not desperate for one but it just looks so lovely!

I obviously have a thing for robes - my white company cashmere one arrived today and I love it.

Tbh I wasn't going to eat toast and marmalade in it - more like swish around with cocktails ( ok probably not but it's an idea! )

Yes the silk content isn't great considering the price. I'll see how much it comes down in the sale. Any ideas when that usually is? Before or after Christmas?

Bit meh for me. And for that money it would have to knock my socks off. The TomDick and Harry one is much nicer. If only I lived a life that required an £800 dressing gown.

FYI my dressing gown Is fleece, so feel free to ignore my opinion.

planetexpressship · 03/11/2020 17:33

silk velvet is only ever a small percentage of silk with viscose ime and very different from e.g. cotton velvet. i have bits and pieces in silk velvet, all ebay specials (tho not toast) & i machine wash them and live with the slghtly crumpled look - the drape and feel is still worth it.

MsRinky · 03/11/2020 17:59

I have one of these in Renaissance-Madonna-blue from about a decade ago, I set a midnight alarm for the sale and bought it half-price (which was not half of £325).

It is lovely, but the lining of mine is acetate, when I rather think I was expecting silk, so it didn't feel as luxurious on the inside to wear as I thought it would be. I see the lining is now viscose, which can have a variety of textures, I think I'd want to feel that before making a decision.

Sasuma · 03/11/2020 18:12

I’ve got one of these quilted cotton robes which at £310 is similar in price to the Toast one but machine washable: desmondanddempsey.com/collections/womens-robes

My dressing gown is also fleece but I’d certainly have the Tom Dick and Harry one in my life - I’ll never have the lifestyle though Grin
faustina · 03/11/2020 18:30

Many years ago they used to do them in cotton velvet and they were lovely - but like others have said, it's dry clean only, and it's not that nice. there was a lovely cotton velvet dressing gown from somewhere else for half the price - let me see if I can remember where - I'll put a link if I can

faustina · 03/11/2020 18:32

velvet kimono

Laquila · 03/11/2020 20:58

I have one of their full-length double-faced cotton flannel robes and I do love it, but the velvet one being dry clean only would definitely put me off.

I am going to order it. Have worked my socks off since 16th March. It will only be worn at home and nobody can judge!

sleepwhenidie · 04/11/2020 13:30

@AcornAutumn OMG that robe is to die for!

Whitney168 · 04/11/2020 13:44

I'd rather have one of these that someone posted the other day:

www.shibumistyle.com/collections/reversible-dressing-gowns

Customer service dire though, I want a measurement from them to decide on which of two sizes and cannot get it!
