My out of work wardrobe is very lacking

I ralised this week when I saw a number of my colleagues out of work (covid testing, not socialising) that m leisure wardrobe is a bit lacking.
I have lots of nice smart/smart casual dresses that I wear for work. Out of work I tend to slob about in old leggings, a 30 year old sweatshirt and some trainers i have had for years. I have a few nice things in the wardrobe (whistles sweatshirts, Toast jumpers and two jersey Toast tops, Brora roll necks) but it doesn't add up t much. Part of the problem is that I cook a lot and have a very hairy dog. This weekend I made an effort with jeans, sweatshirt and blouse underneath, it all looked good on Saturday. After a day with the dog and a bit of gardening i wished i'd not bothered.
Should I just go off to Sainsburys or Asda and get a few bits to tide me over or should I really try to transition to nice stuff 7 days a week.
Jeans are a bit of a priority as my skinnies don't look right anymore.
I'm size 14 and 5'3" a bit of a tummy but look OK, hoping to lose a bit of weight in the coming months so don't want to invest a lot in things that might not fit later on. The current style of big droopy dresses doesn't suit me at all, I need something a bit more fitted. All advice gratefully received.

Be happy with how you dress. You know the saying.. Go out look great and you see no one, go out looking like a scarecrow and it's a reunion 😂

What about getting some nice jeans you can wear with your Whistles and Toast tops, and maybe some cords? Monki have some really nice straight jeans which aren’t too ££.

We have a very hairy white cat, so I tend to change out of “nice” clothes as soon as I finish work (currently WFH).

Yes, I'm off to Next after work to look at jeans, i need petite leg length and they are the only ones i can rely on not to have to shorten. I think I'll just have to buy more clothes and wash them every day, dog is only this hairy at moulting times. I've no been happy with how I dress out of work for ages, but hope I can get round Sainsburys or the garden centre without seeing anyone I know.

I have ordered two tops, some jeans and some dungarees from Whitestuff, although it is against my nature to spend money on stuff I will wear mainly at home - and for food/petrol/ garden centre shopping I will try to look a bit more presentable and see if I can get used to it. I'm not a slob in any other respect, nice hair, make up and DH always wears presentable clothes. I think I just have a feeling I should hoard nice things for best.

It's very hard to get out of the saving things for best mindset. Especially with lockdown and seeing nothing except the inside of Tesco for weeks on end.
Maybe change into scruffier clothes for gardening and put nicer clothes on for shopping everything else.

Invest in an apron to protect your new casual clothes. Their linen slip over version and the denim similar one are fashion items in their own right!

I have a big old John Lewis denim pinny which I have brought out of the back of the cupboard to wear for cooking over my new clothes. The Toast ones are lovely.

Of course dress how you like. My off duty wardrobe was like yours sence I too have dogs. Wfh made me develop a new wardrobe of comfortable things that look nice. I enjoy wearing these things around the house now. My only tip re dog hair is no black or dark brown fabrics that hair will cling too. I bought a cute black cord pair of dungarees that stay in the wardrobe now because of the dog hair.
