A friend today was telling me about another kit of the usual suspects £300 same brands, same hype, then she showed me same censorship on her 'freak' group if anyone says they aren't buying one.

I'm no longer in her group, I don't like her I don't like the way she shuts people who disagree with her down and I wonder when has she had her day? Surely people can see through her now?

But buying skincare on installments is getting in debt by (expensive) skincare. You can say whatever you want if you facilitate purchases on installments you facilitate going into debt for expensive skincare.

chloechloe · 01/11/2020 13:43

Trying to justify the installment possibility by saying they encourage people not to get into debt for skincare is ridiculous! They are clearly facilitating it and just trying to make themselves feel better.

Peridot1 · 01/11/2020 14:26

Many many business now accept instalment payments. Yes it’s a debt but many people just use it to help balance out their budget. So for instance £300 is a lot from one months salary. But £100 a month for three months is easier to manage. And if that money is spent on a kit of a full skincare routine that will potentially last you possibly six months or so then for some people it’s a good deal.

Some people are happy with a bar of soap as their skin care. Some people like cheap and cheerful. Some people go mid range. Some people like high end. Some people like a mix.

I don’t get the nastiness about expensive products and the people who buy them. You don’t have to if you don’t want to.

For me it’s self care and as I haven’t been spending much on anything else recently I don’t feel bad about it. I don’t go into debt for it. I enjoy it.

I just find the thread and general bashing of a woman who nobody actually knows personally quite distasteful.

KnightsofColumbusThatHurt · 01/11/2020 14:34

Honestly, if you are having to pay for a skincare kit in instalments then you can't afford it and shouldn't be buying it. And if CH is preaching that people shouldn't be getting into debt for skincare, then she shouldn't be facilitating ways of getting into debt for skincare!

I am not totally against 'skincare' - I do think a lot of it is a total con, but there are products out there that can make a real difference and that people will really like using. But the idea of getting into debt so that you can buy an 'Autumn' skincare kit that is being flogged by someone who has been handsomely paid by the brands in the kit, is just totally insane to me!

doadeer · 01/11/2020 15:21

The culture of the group is damaging.

  • people constantly needing to go on "no spend" months and not able to because they have shopping addictions - fuelled by the group.
  • women hiding parcels and statements from their husbands because they can't afford the skincare items.
  • if anyone dares suggest she should do a cheaper kit or that it's expensive comments are turned off and this person is treated like they are committing blasphemy

I have bought kits in the past, I have a higher than average salary and I can afford it. However this doesn't stop me thinking that at a time when many many people are struggling and losing their jobs, there should be a bit more tact and empathy. I understand she doesn't want to be birchbox but why can't she do a half price version during the current climate?

GrimDamnFanjo · 01/11/2020 15:40

Member of her group and picked up some good tips from her blog starting out.
I love skincare but the idea of spending £300 on a curated kit makes me feel queasy.
I completely support CH making a living but I think some of her fans forget she is doing this.

MoltonSilver · 01/11/2020 15:47

I don't think this thread belongs here. It sounds like it's posted as more of a personal grudge than a discussion of style or beauty.

readingismycardio · 01/11/2020 15:53

I agree. Also don't see the need of a 'standard' kit when you could spend the 300 on skincare that you actually know will work!

I've brought my skin from crap to glow all by myself with a very simple routine and acids, there's no need to use 20 different types of acids.

CH is a bully and I've been out that group for ages now

endlesscraziness · 01/11/2020 16:02

There are different brands in this kit, some staple favourites but quite a few new ones. I wouldn't buy a kit, partly because my skin is super sensitive. I'm grateful for her knowledge though, my skin is now transformed and mostly with budget products. I don't understand the need to bash a successful woman 🤷🏽‍♀️

MiaN · 01/11/2020 16:04

They congratulate people who got the kits like it's some sort of achievement :). I am glad it did not sell out as fast this time as the price is insane but remain open minded for future offers for less & less products.

Would love to try the pink drink front SR, i want to try Allies of skin as a brand. Have and love the votary serum.

What's so special about zalens serum?

PersonaNonGarter · 01/11/2020 18:46

What's so special about zalens serum?

Well, it’s subject and based on context, skin type and budget. Hmm

This is the danger with people thinking CH is actually their friend.

No one gets pissed off and over invested about whether Liberty has ‘ill timed’ their advent calendar, or why Space NK has expensive products for sale during Covid. Ridiculous.

CrochetToTheMoon · 01/11/2020 22:09

I got her winter kit, the one in the neon yellow/green bag and gave every single product away over the course of a few months.

My skin was utterly awful even though I introduced products slowly and tiny amounts. Now I stick to my CeraVe, Clarins and Kate Somerville stuff. I’m never straying for them again! (Although I want to try the Vichy serum)

chloechloe · 01/11/2020 23:11

The Vichy serum is really good crochet, if you’re talking about the blue aqualia one - it really locks in moisture and is a fair price IMO.

I’m not sure you can really compare it to Liberty or Space NK selling expensive products persona - here somebody is packaging a lot of expensive products together on the premise that if you use them all you’ll have amazing skin.

I’ve bought two of CH’s Cult Beauty boxes in the past so am certainly not criticizing her for the sake of it. I treat myself to expensive skin care as I can afford it. I also have unproblematic skin that doesn’t react to anything and think it means you can get a load of products at a cheaper price (for the sane reason I like advent calendars). But, I think for many people it’s probably not the best way to purchase things, as you could be stuck with a whole load of full sized products that don’t suit you and you can’t really afford. I think it would be better to put together an edited box of deluxe samples for example.

MiaN · 02/11/2020 04:38

@Personanongarter the question about zelens was not to mock the product. As you can read in my previous post - I do have and love one of the expensive products in her kit and have interest in trying few others. I just don't need 8 of them in the same time and selected by someone who is gives out to brands looking to formulate without perfume to suit more skin types as she was giving out to Josh Rosebrook on the live. And as I said before if she comes up with smaller topic kits, lower price less product I remain open minded and if there is something that suits me I would concider it

MiaN · 02/11/2020 04:39

consider it :)

MiaN · 02/11/2020 04:53

If you are fan of the kits and CH, don't take it personally please. Your money, your way - if you get value out of them and you enjoy them there is no need to care about people who don't.

I hope you enjoy them and come back and share reviews of the products!

Peridot1 · 02/11/2020 08:14

There are a couple of selling groups where you can sell unwanted skincare. Two are off shoots of the FB group but not run by CH. no link to her. They work out fair pricing for kit items so you can sell anything you don’t want. Or buy something you do want at the price it was in the kit.

I did that in the summer with a few things that I didn’t want. Will do it again this time.

Also apparently CH will bring out monthly kits next year at a much lower price point. I think they will be themed somehow. I think I saw £50 mentioned.

I’ve enjoyed the kits I bought. Will sell items I know won’t suit. Probably won’t buy another for quite a while.

I responded so much on this thread as I thought it was a bit mean. Especially the OP.

MabelMoo23 · 02/11/2020 08:42

I think this thread is a bit mean too “will she ever go away” bit unnecessary OP

I also think the kits are ridiculously expensive and it’s just poor timing as so many people are losing their jobs and worried about money. But you do get a lot for the money and it’s a hefty discount. It’s the Zelens that seems to big the biggest cost of the kit and bumps the price up. But yes I agree, lots of people commenting the kits are expensive and are getting a lot of backlash

I’ve discovered Sunday Riley and Kate Somerville through CH though snd I love both brands and really want to try Pink Drink but I can’t afford £300 for a kit so I didn’t buy one

FlyingByTheSeatof · 02/11/2020 17:29

I think to be fair she is now so popular she's trying to work out where she can fit in to the market place to make money and career as opposed to just being an influencer as she is a step up from that and many have tried to follow in her footsteps.

It will be interesting to see where her journey takes her.
My skin has changed for the better because of CH influence and I have a good skincare routine and I am aware of products and ingredients that I never would have been before her advice, I'll give her that.

She just needs to get a grip and stop controlling, manipulating and bullying her cult like followers, which she very much does via her FB page.

MiaN · 03/11/2020 06:06

Well, she definitely have great networking skills and with the kits there is always a discount % offer for brands included. If you don't like the kits, you can purchase thing or two if you are interested in specific products and her mates (lol my words) all have very successful brands, and some new interesting too.

And if you really dislike her it's easy to unfollow and avoid.

I am actually looking forward seeing what smaller offers she does and while she can be annoying I wouldn't wish her failure. I have no reason to. There are so many influencers out there, not many publish book and get to launch a product from SR in the country.

MiaN · 07/11/2020 19:07

Changed my mind again. I actually love her!

MumOfPsuedoAdult · 13/11/2020 22:16

See through what specifically? She talks about skincare and makes it clear that her knowledge comes from years of experience in the industry rather than any medical qualification. She also has great skin at the age of 51 which kind of proves her point (and I'm not referring to the 'tweakments' I'm referring to the condition of her skin). If you don't like her don't watch her.
CloudyVanilla · 15/11/2020 06:57

She's a peddler for sure and I came across her years ago when she was touted as this miraculous skincare guru.

I remember her lists and her saying basically how dare you use micellar water in 2 step skincare Grin it's so silly. I am 27 with fair rosacea prone skin, I want to prevent aging but I can't bloody slather it in acids and retinol day in day out.

She's worse than the AB reddit with their daily retinol, AHA, BHA and vitamin C. Makes my fragile skin ache just thinking about it :(

CH is way too sure of herself IMO. It's like she doesn't truly believe people have different skin sensitivities.
