Brown empire line dress/long top for pregnancy?

AllBuggiedOut · 15/10/2007 13:59

I am 20-odd weeks pg, and want to find a dress/top to go over brown leggings with brown slouchy boots. It needs to have a seam under the bust (is that empire or princess line?) as otherwise I just look immense, and needs to be just above the knee.

I'd love some help finding one, thanks!

I tried on a lovely mid-thigh one from the sale rail in New Look yesterday - cream with 60s-style brown and purple flowers - but it didn't have gathers under the bustline so may not be full enough for a pg tum.
Primark also a good source of smocks atm.
I found Next mat tops came up quite small ie started fitting early on - this one might do the trick.

AllBuggiedOut · 15/10/2007 14:13

Thanks - the Next one would definitely be too short (sadly my thighs are expanding almost as fast as stomach...) but will check out New Look and Primark when next out shopping.

Any other suggestions? Or online opportunities?

WOuld try Top Shop, you can browse on line beofre you shop. They usually have loads of smock tops.

JackieNo · 15/10/2007 16:26

Probably a bit shorter than you want but is that the sort of thing?

AllBuggiedOut · 15/10/2007 17:06

Sort of, JackieNo, but prefer a bit more fitted under the bust. I had this in the summer, and the fit is still good, so am really looking for a brown and wintery version...

Hmm, OK - still not quite long enough.

JackieNo · 15/10/2007 19:27

This might work?

AllBuggiedOut · 15/10/2007 19:37

I LOVE the Dorothy Perkins one, but as you say, too short, not so keen on the other. Am thinking I may need something that describes itself as a dress rather than tunic to cover up the expanding thigh problem...

I thought the M&S one looked gorgeous! Would have loved a top like that when I was pregnant. Think the arm detail is really lovely. Top Shop might have sth suitable perhaps?

Tutter · 15/10/2007 20:46

this, from crave maternbity?

Tutter · 15/10/2007 20:48

or this, from picchu?

Tutter · 15/10/2007 20:49

or this, from my friend's shop?

oreGOREnianabroad · 15/10/2007 20:53

New Look has some nice knit tunics in s decent knit.
Matalan has some nice -looking tunics in not-so-decent knit, but would probably do you the next 20 weeks.
TK Maxx is great for all sorts.
Or you could go for a nice, long, expensive cardi instead (v. slimming, can be worn again after) and wear cheapo tops underneath?

JackieNo · 15/10/2007 21:04

Still a bit pale but nice? There seem to be other colours around, but not much brown.

JackieNo · 15/10/2007 21:06

Are you sure you can't do another colour?

AllBuggiedOut · 15/10/2007 21:46

I really like the one from Crave, and the one from Push has potential (clearly need a trip to London...), although both are fairly expensive... The Littlewoods one definitely too short, and yes would consider other colours, but not olive. Something more reddy/orange would work better on me.

How about this one from Isabella Oliver www.isabellaoliver.com/io/Shop?DSP=30100&PCR=2:100:1020&IID=DR52
You can get them on ebay and if not you can get them at a discount (think I've seen links on here for discounts) and sell them on ebay afterwards for good money.

AllBuggiedOut · 15/10/2007 22:02

I don't get on with wraps, they always cling in the wrong places.

But am really appreciating all your work for me ladies, thanks!

Am not normally a fan, but this one is very empire so it skins the fleshy bits IYSWIM!
Have you browsed the Top Shop site? Def worth a look....

AllBuggiedOut · 15/10/2007 22:22

This Topshop one could work - although I can't see if it tells me how long it is (looks pretty short). Am wondering if knitted might be too clingy, although could wear a slip underneath I suppose

OP posts:
Pannacotta · 15/10/2007 22:25

Mmm I think that looks like it might be very clingy and not v flattering on anyone other than a bean pole. Dotty P aslo has good website (sorry too tired to trawl, am off to bed)

AllBuggiedOut · 15/10/2007 22:31

Night night, Pannacotta, thanks for your help!

OP posts:
JackieNo · 16/10/2007 15:54

I've found an orange one? Dark red? Ooh, here's a brown one I missed, I think.

AllBuggiedOut · 16/10/2007 19:27

I like the Monsoon one a lot - wonder whether the Principles one would work over pregnant norks, but definitely worth a try. Am looking forward to a shopping trip now! Thanks so much for your help, much appreciated. (Have decided against the Crave one having tried on a polo neck today and found self looking extremely large...)

OP posts:
JackieNo · 16/10/2007 19:54

Oh yes - high necks and norks are not a good combination. Happy shopping - hope you find something.
