CurlyGirl & Frequent Workouts

Bit of an odd question...

I am a follower of the curly girl method, use kantu products, and previously would have washed my hair every 3 days roughly with kantu shampoo, then condiitoner that i leave in, then curl cream. In between washes i would just lightly wet my hair, de knot with fingers, and scrunch with a small bit of curl cream.

Now though, i've gone on an exercise kick and am working out 5 days a week - spinning & circuits mostly. And I am sweating buckets so obvisouly need to shower & wash hair after every workout (i appear to sweat from my scalp Hmm ). I find this much washing is drying out my hair though, and its not in great condition.

Anyone find a non-drying way to wash sweaty curly hair often ?

A thought: could you add essential lavender oil (as in the stuff you can use in diffusers) to a water spray bottle and spritz your scalp instead of washing (thereby cleansing scalp - tho am sure any sweat isn’t ‘smelly’ (?) more that you want a “fresh feeling”? Is that right? (I don’t ever have a sweaty scalp so I may be wrong here eg about odour etc, but I do remember the author of the curly girl book suggesting lavender mixed with water as a hair/scalp refresher.) could you try that?

Yeah it's not smelly-sweaty, just wet-sweaty i suppose (sorry if TMI Grin )

I'm not a huge fan of the smell of lavender but I wonder could you use the same principal with a different oil ..... maybe diluted tea-tree or something like that

Hehe re tmi. Imagine tea tree be great (if too drying then stop). Ps I’ve only been doing this curly girl thing since sept. What did you do on the days you’re not washing (before you started going to the gym?). I’ve just taken to tying my hair up, since know I’m not supposed to brush it but then it just looks really unkempt. I tried spritzing with water (as per my suggestion above ;-) but then I’d sort of pull out all the curls when “combing” with my fingers. I know this is your thread, but any advice back? Thank you.

Ps know you have outlined what you do in your op but honestly I have such thick hair (albeit European) that its really quite a procedure to deknot with fingers etc...

I googled this a while ago. Witch hazel on your scalp between washes and using one of those comb hair bands to lift hair from the scalp a bit (being careful when removing it) is all I came up with

I find the trick to untangling between washed is you actually have to get the hair pretty wet - a spritz of water won't do the trick for me, i need it practically wet before i can get my fingers through it without sending it totally frizzy .... bit of curls creme then and bob's your uncle
