Grey hairs - box dye for highlights effect?

Advice please. I have mousey/light brown hair with more than a little grey. Can I use a box dye in a lighter shade than my natural colour to lift the greys?

I've been doing a bit of research about going grey naturally. I've only ever done semi-permanent box dyes before to get close to my natural colour as possible. Happy to embrace the grey eventually but it's just looking so haggard at the moment. (my mum still has a lot of natural colour in her 70s, also I'm fairly skint hence box dye rather than hairdresser)

Thanks!

I don't know if this will help but I'm black haired with a LOT of grey and I use a box semi of a light brown ( casting creme gloss) to give a sort of sprinkling of various brown shades and I think it works fairly well, I wanted to avoid a flat dark dyed look.

I use casting 734 (honey blonde) on naturally mousy/graying hair. Used it for years and get loads of compliments- everyone always think I've spent a fortune on highlights. The colour varies over time as well as semi perm.

I do exactly this. I originally used either a Superdrug or Clairol medium blonde. It blends the grey in well and comes out in different times which seems to make it look more natural. I never bother to dye the whole thing now though, I just use the Superdrug medium blonde root dye which is cheaper and only takes 10 minutes.

Different tones that should say.
