Are ankle boots still in fashion?

And if so what do you wear them with? Are flats ok?

Or what other shoes do you wear in winter? I’m struggling to part with my TOMS but the weather’s on the turn and I need something more substantial

Chunky Chelsea boots are in fashion, worn with ankle length jeans, trousers or dresses.
Or high top trainers with jeans/casual trousers.

WingBingo · 26/10/2020 18:42

Ankle boots seem to be having a revival at the moment, so yes!

There is a thread in S&B at the moment, lots of nice Chelsea boots that look great.

Freetodowhatiwant · 26/10/2020 18:46

Chelsea boots and lace ups both in fashion. Also knee highs depending on outfit.

BinkyBoinky · 26/10/2020 18:48

Yes. I don't think fashion has moved on since last year, especially when most of us have been wearing PJs/loungewear most of this year. I still have my new ones from last winter not properly worn in yet and I'll still be wearing them.

Stuff whatever fashion says we should wear!

20mum · 26/10/2020 19:15

Climate E M E R G E N C Y The planet is on fire. Fashion and all avoidable consumption is selfish and extremely destructive. None of us can drink after some of us pour poison in the well. (Absolutely fine to poison and pollute as much as you like, after you find your own private planet of course) Staying alive through re-using is as stylish as it gets.

ImpossibleGirl86 · 26/10/2020 19:17

Well. That escalated quickly.

Cluckycluck · 26/10/2020 19:27

I'm all about a black western style ankle boot. I do think ankle boots look better with a mid heel. Not a flat of ankle boots, especially on myself.

ShrikeAttack · 26/10/2020 19:31

Agree about the western style boots, I got these this year and I love them.

Craftycorvid · 26/10/2020 19:31

It’s a moot point regarding ‘fast’ fashion. I love eBay, charity shops and swapping with friends. I also hang on to things. Personally, I haven’t worn my knee high boots for ages, but they’ll come out of storage when I’m next in the mood for them.

madcatladyforever · 26/10/2020 19:33

They are in my world as I have a massive lump on my ankle I'm waiting to have removed. Ankle boots hide it.

MorrisZapp · 26/10/2020 19:34

I follow Audrey Coyne on YouTube, she's all about a flat ankle boot and her videos are divine.

Thankssomuch · 26/10/2020 19:38

I thought ankle boots had always been in fashion in one form or other. Either way I don’t think they’re going anywhere.

MoltonSilver · 26/10/2020 19:42

Its all a bit 'anything goes' this year.

thedevilinablackdress · 26/10/2020 21:55

That's a bit like asking if trousers are in fashion. Or coats.

Janegrey333 · 26/10/2020 22:04

Ha!

fizzingbubbleseffervescence · 26/10/2020 22:55

@20mum

I’m sorry if I gave you the impression I’m into fast fashion. I’m not. I agree with you re the planet and I consider the environment, ethics and cruelty to animals in every decision and purchase I make. I only own one pair of boots that I’ve had for ten years. They’re scuffed and full of holes now and my feet are getting wet. I only asked if ankle boots were in fashion as I thought if I was going to ask for something for Christmas it could be something nice as I’m clueless about what’s stylish. Now I feel

You really couldn’t have aimed your post at less materialistic person.

I don't think that they've ever really been out of fashion tbh. They resurface every autumn/winter.

Floisme · 27/10/2020 08:53

No need to explain yourself op. We like clothes on this board.

I'm switching between chunky lace up ankle boots, Chelsea boots and also knee high boots which I went back to last year.

20mum · 27/10/2020 15:26

@fizzingbubbleseffervescence' So sorry, you certainly aren't a braindead planet killer! Like you, I want to get the most out of existing stuff, but still give a nod to the fact I'm not an Abba tribute act (or similar) I searched, pre covid19, for a hand holder to guide me to thread up, let alone use, my bells and whistles intimidating new sewing machine.

It seems like being shoved, alone, into a cockpit and told to look up the instructions and fly: A co-pilot/instructor would be the only way at first. The theory was, I could alter and re-use. I failed, because sewing teachers are creatures of institutions, their own syllabus, and their own machines, all of which is no use to me. I couldn't find an actual real live person who could sew, to come and co-pilot even though I live in the centre of town and was happy to pay whatever was asked.

It often puzzles me how little practical help is available. People are busy being unemployed, or bemoaning their lack of business, and yet there is nobody to help social care workers, or gardeners, or would-be sewing machine users, or gardeners, or, notably, to repair anything, ever, anywhere. (I comprehend that electrical repairs would have to be run past a qualified electrician)

The sewing wannabe is in the right place on this thread, I guess.

Floisme · 27/10/2020 15:33

There is a long running thread on making your own clothes on this board, also regular discussions about buying thoughtfully and ethically. Maybe drop the 'brain dead' if you want to be taken seriously? You're welcome.

JofraArchersFastestBall · 27/10/2020 15:44

Don't worry OP - it's clear from your post that you're after a pair of boots because you want something that will last, look fairly current and keep your feet dry. A perfectly sensible, non planet killing question.

I think ankle boots are the most wearable option at the moment. Either lace up or Chelsea style. I'm certainly still wearing mine (and I'm a terrible person with more than one style of boot - I'm not reaching for the calf length ones, but will keep them because I love them and think they'll come back into fashion at some point)

Thankssomuch · 27/10/2020 20:01

I actually have quite a large variety of boots...Shock

throwaway100000 · 27/10/2020 20:41

“Ankle boots” covers such a wide spectrum of shoes - some are trendy whilst others are dated.

I personally feel like all heeled ankle boots are outdated (I still wear mine though). As are most other styles honestlyblush

The trendy boots are currently the black chunky sleek ones - eg the platform Chelsea boots attached or Dr martens (especially the platform Jadon style)
