Rough dark patches on knees

sunsetandcocktails · 25/10/2020 22:02

Does anyone else have this? It almost looks like my knees are bruised, the skin is so discoloured. It's also dry.
I have two kids under 2 so spend a lot of time kneeling on the floor doing nappies/playing etc, which j think may have caused it.
I'd love to get rid of these patches...moisturiser doesn't seem to make much difference. Any ideas?
Thanks!

Try ameliorite cream / glycolic acid

Bio oil might help.

I have dry patches on my knees too, but no discolouring I have no idea how they got there and think it must be down to kneeling a lot when I was younger but don't remember doing so.

I always moisturise them every day, and if the skin gets really dry I use a pumice stone and then moisturise. It's all you can do

Keep moisturising. But, in my experience it didn't really improve until I stopped kneeling all the time.

Bio oil might help.
Bio oil does nothing except moisturize sorry

A bit out of left field here but do you have any thyroid issues? Can cause hyperpigmentation and skin thickening and dryness especially in contact areas

TheTeenageYears · 26/10/2020 08:19

DD gets this on the top pf her big toes. She has quite chunky feet and I suspect the top of toes rub her shoes most of the time. It went away in lockdown when shoes were rarely worn. Would a pumice be painful do you think? Maybe try lightly plus one of the oil or cream suggestions.

Thanks for all the suggestions! I'll be better at moisturising and exfoliating. Will check out the thyroid thing too, not sure that I have any other symptoms but it's worth looking into.
I suspect it's just another joy of having small children and being on my knees so much !

People have been known to comment on how soft my skin is, but my knees have always been like sandpaper and I have no idea why.
