They've been around years.
I really want a nice light grey one but everywhere is sold out.
Has anyone seen any in stock in smallish sizes ?

What's a shacket?

A jacket crossed with a shawl? Shagpile? Sh...?

AsGhoulAsKimDeal · 23/10/2020 22:08

They're just the lumberjacket shirts of the early 90s with a sillier name.

tinaooob · 23/10/2020 22:13

I think it's shirt /jacket ha ha

Never heard of them before! I don't really follow fashion trends like this though, within a few years they look silly. Buy some higher quality staples, with neutral colours and they'll last longer and look better.

They're literally a heavy weight shirt or light weight shirt style jacket. Hardly new or likely to look 'silly' any time soon (we're not talking cold shoulder tops here). I've got an army surplus one that I've had for over 20 years that gets a turn out most years.
Fashion journos and bloggers need something to punt every season and this is one of them at the moment.

tinaooob · 24/10/2020 10:16

@thedevilinablackdress I'm pleased it's something wearable this year.
I love them

Oh yes, it's great I agree :-)

She's wanting a grey flannelette heavy weight shirt. Hardly going to fall apart in a season and pretty classic and neutral.

Clothes do wear out eventually, and need replacing. Might as well enjoy the changes and anyway nothing is considered a 'classic' forever, classics are basically slightly out of date but still very popular clothes (see: skinnies). In another 10 years what is considered 'classic' will change just like every other fashion. We are curious intelligent novelty seeking animals who have always changed how we cover and decorate our bodies.

I find them useful when working from home. Warmer than just a shirt and a plain grey one still looks smart with a plain jumper or top underneath.

LonnyVonnyWilsonFrickett · 24/10/2020 12:12

I think @fiorentina has it - they're super-useful for WFH. I want one too!

ChinDiaper · 24/10/2020 12:19

Nice light grey one here

Although knowing Monki they'll be massive and you'll need to size down

BlusteryShowers · 24/10/2020 12:26

I always associate that look with classic late noughties Cheryl Cole! I do like a plaid shirt

They might not have been the thing that took off this year, but then I went looking for a new coat last week, all the formal, smarter coats were available in all sizes, anything more casual and slouchy wasn't. Im guessing many woman who normally would be buying something a bit more formal to throw over work clothes are buying more casual styles this year - plus as you can't try things on, something like a shacket is more forgiving if its not exactly right size/shape.

tinaooob · 24/10/2020 12:37

@ChinDiaper Thankyou that's exactly what I'm looking for,not sure what size to order as I've got skinny arms and don't want it to look ridiculous

OP posts:
ChinDiaper · 24/10/2020 12:45

Well I don't know if this helps but I'm a size 12 so a medium in Monki, but tend to size down in their looser fitting items as they tend to be very baggy, so if I was buying this I'd get a small. But it will depend on the fit you want. Their returns are good though, I've had no problems.

MrsGrindah · 24/10/2020 12:50

They do look like a pyjama top though

headstrong27 · 24/10/2020 12:57

@BlusteryShowers I wouldn't count that as a shacket

headstrong27 · 24/10/2020 13:00

They are a thing every AW aren't they. Maybe it's because people are more casual done to wfh.

due to.

Elllllle · 24/10/2020 13:05

Everyone is going mad for shackets? Are they though?

That cheryl cole one is just a plaid shirt, surely?

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 24/10/2020 14:32

Agree with pp about formal coats being a bit of a dud this year. I’d say the thing people are going daft for is puffer/parka type coats. I’d also expect chunky knits to be far more popular than they usually would be between socialising outdoors and working from home.
