Curly hair

Since having my DS 7 years ago my hair has gone curly. I am rubbish at looking after it and making it look it's best. I literally just wash it and put some mousse in and it just doesn't look great.
Anyone have any tips on how to enhance my curls?
Also I think I need a diffuser, any recommendations?
Thanks

Hey welcome to curly life!

A lot will come on here to suggest the curly girl method, but it's a hell of a faff (though do look into it, you may like to try it, but I found it too much faff).

I use shampoo and conditioner for curly hair (currently on John Frieda, but move around depending if there's offers on).

I wash with the shampoo, then condition, and comb my hair with a wide tooth comb (my hairs also super thick) when the conditioner is on, then I don't comb it again!!

When I get out, I use a T-shirt to scrunch the dampness out the hair. Then I use a curl forming serum (again currently John Frieda but I do love frizz ease) and scrunch that in.

Then in"plop" my hair, meaning I lay another T-shirt on a bed, bend my head forward til all the hair is dangled into the T-shirt then wrap it around my head and secure. I sleep in it usually. Take it out in the morning to lovely smooth (mostly) curls.
Other times I leave it for an hour or two if I wash it in the morning.

The main things are: good conditioner, don't brush or comb once dry, good frizz ease or curl serum, don't use a towel to dry as it's too rough. I also only wash it once or twice a week.

I don't find diffusing helps my hair - just frizzes up. But I've read good things about remmington.

Have a search on your tube for curly hair technique or diffusing there's loads of good tutorials

That's great advice! Thank you!

When you’re conditioning in the the shower make sure your hair is soaking wet and squish or scrunch the the conditioner in. Do that a couple times.

Diffusing actually causes my hair to be less frizzy. While it’s off I cup my hair in the diffuser, switch on and leave for a while. Switch if then do another section. Sounds tedious but I found it has really made my curls more defined.

To be fair most types of curls are different so what might work for me might not work for you. For example the other poster obviously diffusing helps them, for me I look like Tina Turner in a wind tunnel! And I've tried multiple different techniques.

Just keep researching and experimenting until you find a combo that works!

Good luck x

You might need protein, my curly hair loves it
www.google.com/amp/s/www.curlyhair.com/hair-tips/how-to-give-your-curls-the-protein-stretch-test/amp/
I use a silk cap at night to prevent frizz. Shampoo as little as poss and use silicon free conditioner- just use conditioner in between washes. Either Tresemme Botaniques or Garnier 3 in 1 banana hair food (its amazing)
Am constantly on the holy grail search for hair products. My curly sister swears by boots 1.50 mousse but I can't find it in stock. I'm using Cantu curl cream atm but it makes my hair a bit greasy looking at times.
If i diffuse mine I look like a poodle so it just air dries
The most important thing is to find a hairdresser who is confident with curly hair and get a good cut. No razoring or thinning. Blunt layers work best on mine.

I LOVE this idea. Sounds awesome

I’m the poster that’s going to recommend the curly girl method, though I’m also going to say it’s a faff and you should simplify it. (For me, it means I’ve binned shampoo and only wash with conditioner, and I only use silicone-free products.)

Thanks for all the tips, I'm going to be busy trying all these!
