I d bought her some from Uniqlo and Next. They all give her eczema everywhere. She sits next to an open window for a lot of the day at school.

Does pure cotton exist? Because l can’t find any!

Cotton isn't warm or sweat wicking. She needs either merino or synthetic: whichever won't irritate her skin. Try Damart or any of the ski or outdoor brands once you've worked out what doesn't irritate her eczema.

MinesAPintOfTea · 21/10/2020 21:10

Agree on cotton, although a long sleeved t shirt would be better than nothing if she's generally sitting still.

Silk is an option for good thermal insulation, although a pain to keep on top of washing and more expensive

TheEmojiFormerlyKnownAsPrince · 21/10/2020 21:22

It’s how they are knitted which helps the insulation too. She can’t wear wool in any format at all.

So looks like silk😞

Have you looked at decathlon? They have a base layer for every occasion.

Srictlybakeoff · 21/10/2020 21:30

What about bamboo . Haven’t tried it myself but it’s said to be hypoallergenic. Thought clothing does some bamboo long sleeve t shirts ( colours might not suit your dad tho)

TheEmojiFormerlyKnownAsPrince · 21/10/2020 21:31

She just wants black. I’ll look at Decathlon too.

I have eczema and I could never wear a synthetic thermal - it would drive me to distraction..
BAM - do very soft base layers. There bambooo is beautifully soft

I’ve found some silk ones for 30 quid!

I find any wool including merino and cashmere too uncomfortable.
The bamboo base layers and socks are incredibly comfortable.

TheEmojiFormerlyKnownAsPrince · 21/10/2020 21:40

Are the bamboo ones thermal?

lucillevanpelt · 21/10/2020 22:11

I only like wearing 100% cotton next to my skin. M&S do pure cotton long sleeve tops in plain colours including black at £8.50. I love them.

lucillevanpelt · 21/10/2020 22:18

Oops, also I guess it’s true they are not thermal, but they are a good first layer. If you add something else you get an overall insulating effect. Synthetics trap stink molecules and always end up reeking.

lucillevanpelt · 21/10/2020 22:21

I would consider bamboo too actually! I have some bamboo tights that are the softest things ever. They fall down a bit though!

bicyclesandbeyond · 21/10/2020 23:00

boody.co.uk
This brand does lovely soft bamboo tops x

Aughrim18 · 22/10/2020 21:05

Bamboo base layers are used on expeditions in the cold climates

Oblomov20 · 22/10/2020 21:19

M&S thermal tops are very thin and dead comfy. I've had them for years. I've got a few sparkly ones.

Ugh sparkly will really make her itch! I looked at them, but they had none in stock. The Uniqlo ones are really smooth that she has.

She may just be having an eczema flare as it’s all over not just on her arms to appears. It’s not on her trunk and back though.

Cotton Traders sell pure cotton base layer tops.

Ceit · 23/10/2020 19:05

My daughter has eczema. I've bought her silk thermals from Patra and they are great.

midmodmad · 23/10/2020 20:20

Matalan are currently selling 100% cotton, long sleeve t-shirts for £5 each. Lots of different colours (think they had black but can't be totally sure)

houseRefurb · 23/10/2020 20:53

Some that I had used when my daughter's eczema was bad:

Dermasilk (in very severe cases, can get it on prescription from NHS)
Ecooutfitters (school uniform and such, cotton)

In my experience, long sleeves always got her too warm and itchy, particularly while at school.
I know you asked only about cotton tops, but, for eczema, the game changer for us was using MooGoo creams.

Callipygion · 23/10/2020 21:59

Can she wear a cotton T-shirt under the thermal top?

TheEmojiFormerlyKnownAsPrince · 23/10/2020 22:14

She doesn’t like feeling ‘bundled up’ l think 4 layers ( t shirt, thermal, polo shirt and jumper) would be too much!

Thinking about silk. Although it seems to have calmed down a bit now.

Summone · 23/10/2020 22:22

I was told recently that a lot of people wear under armour base layers for sensory reasons. So they must be comfy but don't know if they will be good for eczema.

Salcara · 24/10/2020 11:45

I would try bamboo if you can get a suitable top. I don’t have eczema but I do have severe psoriasis (45% coverage), mostly my chest, back and buttocks but also in patches on my arms, legs and feet. Pure Synthetics irritate the hell out of my skin, so I need a good percentage of natural fibres, usually cotton. I have some soft bamboo tops and socks which my skin really likes.
