Wool makes me itch

Anyone else? I can't even cuddle DP if he is wearing a wool jumper!

Is it wool or is it me?

It also makes me itch, the only way I can wear wool sweaters is with a full base layer on underneath.

CoolYourBeansMySon · 20/10/2020 15:29

I don't even do that anymore Candace, I get itchy round the cuffs and neck. I wonder why?

I’m allergic to all of it.

Wool
Polyester
Acrylic
Cashmere

I just wear cotton with a jumper over the top. I’m careful with cuffs and necklines. Fold cuffs back, no high necklines.

EerilyDeleted · 20/10/2020 15:35

Yes, not allergic but it makes me itch even if I have a layer underneath, can't wear woollen hats, gloves, any of it. Even cashmere is only just tolerable.

CoolYourBeansMySon · 20/10/2020 15:44

I'm sorry Emoji, that must be such a pain!
I'm not allergic either, more irritated.

I thought it was just me!

Same with wool. Inherited from my Mum, also the same Smile Even if it’s 5% I know IMMEDIATELY.

Merino and alpaca wool seem to be fine for me, worth a try?

Clettercletterthatsbetter · 20/10/2020 16:01

It’s not just you. I have a couple of cardigans that are 2% wool and I can just about tolerate them, but anything higher and I itch uncontrollably.

I only buy jumpers/cardigans that are cotton or, though I hate to, acrylic.

TheEmojiFormerlyKnownAsPrince · 20/10/2020 16:56

Silk is warm- if you can afford it.

CoolYourBeansMySon · 20/10/2020 23:44

Hmmm. I can't afford silk. Or cashmere. I do have a merino wool cardi though, that seems ok.

Why does wool itch though? Is it to do with the fibres or something? I am sensitive to things against my skin though.

Yes, wool makes me itch/feels prickly - can tell within a few seconds of putting it on.

Merino is great though, no problems at all - Uniqlo and Gap do great options.

Sooverthemill · 21/10/2020 08:12

Merino wool has a different type of fibre that is smoother and bendier so that's why no itching. I can often wear it. I can not wear any other kind of wool although am tempted to try cashmere. Alpaca is the worst even 5% makes me crazy. Weirdly I have recently tried a mixed blend with a low amount of mohair and that was okay with a long sleeved top under. It's not from sheep ( a goat) so maybe that's why.
