Do bones ever stop getting bigger?!

I’m 42 and I’m pretty sure that I’m not plumper than I was 10 years ago, in the sense that my tum and thighs are the same shape as they were. However, some of the clothes that fitted me then are now too small! Likewise, clothes that fitted me at 22 were too small at 32. This leads me to conclude that my bones must have got bigger, and I’m wondering - does this ever stop?!

If you’re in your 50s, 60s, or 70s, are you bigger than in the past without being plumper?!

All those elderly people in their 80s and 90s walking round like the BFG with their massive bones

MadamBatty · 21/10/2020 10:55

What’s that expression? massive old lady?

RufustheSniggeringReindeer · 21/10/2020 19:07

I was going to say bone spurs when i saw your title

But now ive read the OP i dont think it fits 😀

Im fatter because I’m fat but my knuckles are much much bigger following pregnancy, but as others have said its just spread

LightDrizzle · 21/10/2020 19:14
Grin I love the fact you were still hanging in there for your bones having the same density but....getting bigger. This is all quite delightful.
Rainbowllama4 · 21/10/2020 23:08

Op, you sound lovely and your thread has made me genuinely smile, there hadn’t been many of those on my face for awhile.

GlendaSugarbeanIsJudgingYou · 21/10/2020 23:22

I like your theory OP.

My arse bone in particular has had a few growth spurts since March.

movingonup20 · 21/10/2020 23:30

Hips can widen during pregnancy (but it's the ligament and muscles not the bones) and feet change shape too but again the bones havent changed

movingonup20 · 21/10/2020 23:33

@MikeUniformMike

Clothes I think are 1-2 sizes different, I have clothes marked 14 from the 90's and I can't get near them despite wearing 14 from the same shop now

3rdNamechange · 21/10/2020 23:44

😂

Iamthewombat · 21/10/2020 23:48

What’s that expression? massive old lady?

HAHAHAHAHA

Maireas · 22/10/2020 06:06

"I don't know whether it's bones or fat"
Brilliant.

MikeUniformMike · 22/10/2020 08:14

@movingonup20, I think a size 16 in the 1970s would be a size 12 today.

I have some sewing patterns and the sizes are tiny.

MikeUniformMike · 22/10/2020 08:16

sorry, I missed out the word vintage.

If you buy vintage clothes - even from the 1980s or 1990s they seem much smaller. I had a M&S skirt from way back and the waist was 23" and it was size 10.

TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 22/10/2020 12:09

Actually I think there may be some truth in this, have you seen the size of dinosaur bones? They're huge and they're really old.

Gwenhwyfar · 22/10/2020 18:43

"The tip of your nose grows- it's gravity- and earlobes- have you seen the size of old men's ! smile"

I remember reading this, but then being told it's not true. The nose looks bigger because the rest of the face droops.

TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 22/10/2020 18:56

@Gwenhwyfar

If gravity were the culprit wouldn`t all old men have very long penises ?

You needed answer that, it's not something to dwell on. Smile

ExCwmbranDweller · 25/10/2020 15:29

Actually TwoLeftSocks, as you mention it, there is a ligament that can loosen and well Grin.
