Anti-yellowing advice for natural silver hair?

Can anyone recommend masks, glosses, toners etc to keep the yellow at bay? I’ve tried every purple shampoo going, and find they don’t strip out the two yellow streaks I have at the front (best purple shampoo I’ve tried is Fanola - in case you’re looking).
So - wondering if anyone has tried a home use toner - or even grey extensions?

my mum was a hairdresser and for the blue rinse brigade she always used "a touch of silver". I see they still make it. Not sure what else you could use although she also dyed people's hair with a silver grey dye so that might help too?

I don't wish to pry Op, but most of the ladies who had yellow strips smoked - it was the tar in the smoke that caused yellowing. Perhaps there is something in your environment that is causing it?

Do you use hair straighteners? Apparently the heat from these can cause yellowing.

Thanks for the tips. I don’t smoke and no one in my household smokes, so can’t be that. But I do use a hair wand (hardly ever, only occasionally), + a hairdryer whenever I wash my hair.

'A touch of silver' smells horrible, but it does work. The smell reminds me of dog shampoo though.

I also use a bit of purple hair dye mixed into a bottle of leave in conditioner and stick a bit in my hair after washing. This works really well but if you don't mix it well enough you might end up with a little purple streak. Grey hair seems to like moisture so I wash and condition in the shower with whatever I've got, then add the leave in conditioner mix once I'm out.

Try bblonde silver toner.
I used it on my bleached hair and found it was too silver/grey for my liking. It is purple so should tone out the yellow.
It’s only a couple of quid in home bargains.

Fanola is pretty strong compared to touch of silver etc, I tone my hair with t18 wells colour charm with 10%. Mine is silver colour

Mou53 · 20/10/2020 23:34

Sorry I just checked and I use wella colour charm t18 with 20% not 10%

My dad has very white hair and gets a yellow streak in his. My mum is a retired hairdresser and gets him to use anti chlorine swimming shampoo, think it's a boots own one and that works well.

CrazyCatMamma · 20/10/2020 23:55

I use fanola on my blonde hair and it totally eliminates yellow.
I put it on dry hair - leave it for about 15 mins, then wash.

I use Osmo Super Silver Shampoo and Conditioner one a week/every other week to stop my hair looking yellowish.

MrsCornelius · 26/10/2020 12:03

Thanks for more tips - I'm using Fanola and it does work, but can't use every time as messes with my hair condition.
Will try the Wella, thanks Mous53

Have you tried Charles Worthington's Ultraviolet Shampoo and conditioner? Had toned down my yellow a bit and my hair had never been in better condition (probably also because I've stopped dying it ! )

ASkyPaintedGold · 26/10/2020 12:11

I know you've said you tried all of the purple shampoos...but, have you tried the Lee Stafford Bleach Blondes one? It's amazing on my white hair and gets rid of the yellow totally. If I leave it on for ages I get a nice faint lilac tint - have been complimented on it loads, it's really nice. There's also a toning mask in that range, it's good but not as good as the shampoo, strangely.
I must say though, heat styling is definitely the issue for me. I've changed to straighteners etc that have temperature control and it has really helped.

The best (least drying) purple shampoo is Fudge Clean Blonde.

Also applying a toner every couple of weeks is good, the best I've found is Wella Perfecton
