What were you like at 42?

What did you look like at 42?? Or thereabouts. In my head I'm still young, I often compare myself to people in their 20's and 30's looks and dress wise but then have to remind myself that I'm actually 42!

So nice to see so many of us not giving a shit about what other people think

ImEatingVeryHealthilyOhYes · 19/10/2020 21:31

At 42 I looked pretty much the same as during my 30s. In the 3 years since, the signs of ageing have started but I don’t know if that’s the age it would’ve happened anyway or it was due to a total life collapse I unfortunately experienced.

I’m certain that sugar and alcohol play a big role for me personally.

Currently saving up for braces (yes bit late in the day Grin), then after that I might go for a mini face lift at around 50. On the other hand if I’m happily settled down by then I probably won’t care, so I’m hoping for that!

I’m 42.

I think I have a clearer idea of what suits me clothing wise than when I was younger. I generally don’t like flouncy clothes. I like fitted clothes or skinny leg jeans/trousers and a looser top. I also like dresses.Colour wise I like black, navy, khaki, white, red and mustard. I wear trendier clothing now day to day than I did 10 years ago because I’ve got more money and dc who are older.

I’ve always been slim and still am a size 6-8. I think this helps the perception of others that I’m younger than I am. When people look at my actual face it’s obvious that I’m in my forties! But that doesn’t really bother me.

I'm 41 and feel 30 in my head, my boyfriend is 30 and he's more mature than me!

I'm a size 14 since lockdown and have a belly for the first time which I hate and makes my clothes look bad but think it's probably here to stay!

I wear slouchy jeans and T shirts, joggers and hoodies at home.

Maybe a dress and tights/leggings for work.

I genuinely have no wrinkles aside from a few faint forehead lines, none at all around my eyes.

I’ll be 42 before the year is out 😊

I haven’t altered the way I dress at all — it has always been fairly classic with a bit of a twist though — in fact, I started to pile on weight in my unhappy marriage late thirties so when I LTB and the excess pounds all left me a few years ago, it has meant the past few summers I’ve been much happier to wear the odd floaty dress or camisole on super hot days, but generally this is my happy season: well-cut flattering denim in darker washes or grey/black; cashmere sweaters, quality tees or even the odd silk blouse. I usually add one statement: a scarf in my topknot, a silver necklace, a red lip, yada, yada.

I have rounds of highlights to blend rather than eliminate my greys. I am rigorous with skincare.

I feel great. So much more confident than in any other decade! But then I'm not scared of ageing. I was often called a strikingly pretty young woman think I’m growing into a beautiful person who likes and trusts herself a lot. Smile

I’m 46 but in my head I’m 16.
Seriously.
I love nice young trendy clothes, listening cool trendy music, I act like someone is 20 years old max.
I can’t imagine to act up my age ever.
I always think one day when I’m older I will be adult, have my own house, my own car, drive like mums in mums cars on school run, doing shopping in supermarket like an mature adult.
When this will all happen? I’m already 46 ! But in my head I’m 16!

caramelaero · 20/10/2020 12:01

I feel younger than I am but I don't like trendy music, and I don't really equate it with seeming young as all the mumsy types round here listen to trendy music! I didn't like trendy clothes or music when I was a teen either!

Wheytaminute · 20/10/2020 12:07

young.

I am now 10 years older and look it

CointreauVersial · 20/10/2020 13:39

At the age of 42 I was just starting to emerge from the fug of full-time parenthood.

43 onwards was when I confronted the fact that I needed to get to grips with my weight and lack of fitness; I started Couch25k, low carb eating, improving my skincare regime, dressing more fashionably......I think I look a lot better now than ten years ago.
