Didriksons Luna or Erika?

Clettercletterthatsbetter · 17/10/2020 20:12

Does anyone have the Didriksons Luna or Erika? I know someone on here has the Luna but can’t find the thread they are on to @ them!

I’m wondering whether the Erika might be too warm? I need something fully waterproof with taped seams - I walk the school run 3x per day in all weathers so it needs to keep me dry! Would like something that will see me through even the coldest bits of winter.

I live in the South so it doesn’t get too cold, but I do have to be out in it for approx. 1 hour at a time so it needs to be nice and cosy but without getting sweaty when I’m walking.

Any Luna or Erika owners that can enlighten me?

Hopeful bump

Another hopeful bump as I’m pondering this question right now!

I live in the south and have the Erika. I bought it for dog walking and have already worn it over a thin top this year. I love it and almost look forward to cold days so I can put it on. I definitely don't think it's too warm but does keep me really toasty on a cold day.

Clettercletterthatsbetter · 25/10/2020 01:00

@Junobug thank you! I have a tendency to run hot, and walk the school run fairly quickly pushing a pram laden with baby and chunky 3yo. Would it still be ok or a bit hot in mild but wet weather (eg. the weather over the past week)?

@Domesticdrama I think I’m leaning towards the Luna, thinking I can layer underneath it on very cold days. How about you?

A big thanks to @Junobug for her advice. I have ordered the Erika. I already have a lighter coat then I tend to wear on milder days so I decided to go for the Erika. However if I were you, I would go for the Luna. Like you said, you can always layer on the very cold days. I also much prefer the forest green colour of the Luna to the fog green of the Erika! But the Erika was cheaper. I will let you know when it arrives if you like.

I have the Erika, it's got a label on it saying waterproof but mine is most definitely not. Last winter I had to walk 30 mins in rain. Not pouring or drizzle, just normal rain but windy. When I got home my back was soaked through.

Also I had to layer it up with jumper scarf and hoodie as it wasn't warm enough either. I live in south London. I dont have bad circulation or anything..in fact if anything I'm a sweaty person.

I bought it even though it's a boring coat, which I was prepared to put up with because I thought it would be warm and properly waterproof so I was rather disappointed.

The only things I like is the hood is big and it has those ski sleeve bits with thumb holes.

Clettercletterthatsbetter · 25/10/2020 12:35

@Domesticdrama I love the maroon colour the Erika comes in.

@happysunr1se that puts me off Didrikson...they’re supposed to be fully waterproof! My current coat gets damp on the arms so I’m looking to replace it with something that doesn’t let in any water!

Hi I bought the Luna in September this year and I love it. I’m only 5’4” but I like the long length and don’t feel swamped. Have worn it in rain and stayed dry and it’s very warm. I have other down coats and now when I go back to them I can really feel the warmth of the Luna. I would definitely recommend and am sure it’s fully waterproof although I haven’t been on a fishing trawler in it it feels like if I did I would stay dry!

Clettercletterthatsbetter · 26/10/2020 05:47

@Izzydawg you may have just convinced me to get the Luna!

What’s the sizing like?

OP posts:
Izzydawg · 26/10/2020 08:22

Sizing is about standard I am a 12-14 and ordered a 14 and a 16 as I like to have room for jumpers. I didn’t even need to try on the 16 as the 14 was fine. I would say the sizing is similar to M&S sizing

Junobug · 26/10/2020 10:56

@Clettercletterthatsbetter I usually have a baby in a sling and a 2 year olds on my heals and it doesn't make me too hot. I have worn it over the past week quite happily, but only with a thin top underneath.
Mine is definite properly waterproof, as is my dh. It's one of the reasons we got them. I think if yours isn't, I'd complain as that's not right.
The fur comes off the Erika, I rarely have it on as it does get soggy.
I'm a 12 and I think I have a 14 as I seem to have been pregnant a lot in the last few years. It's true to size.

Junobug · 26/10/2020 10:58

Oh, and it washes really well and is still waterproof after. As you can probably tell, my dh and I love our didriksons.

Clettercletterthatsbetter · 30/10/2020 16:00

Update: by the time I’d stopped dithering and decided to order the Luna they’d sold out of size 10 and customer services said they won’t be getting any more stock this season. So I optimistically ordered the Luna in an 8 and the Erika in a 10. I’m keeping the Luna - it fits fine and looks a bit sleeker than the Erika. The arms on the Erika are also HUGE - really long and wide. I’m 5’9” so normally I struggle to get coats with arms long enough but the Swedes must have extremely long arms - it would look ridiculous on anyone much shorter! Love the Luna and can’t wait to wear it outside!

I know this is an old thread.. hoping someone can advise. I'm considering the Luna or Erika. While I'm aware the Erika is meant to be warmer,(How much warmer?)
I prefer the long style of the Luna and it's high neck but I'm worried it won't be warm enough when the temperature drops below zero. We get pretty long, cold winters where we are (Peak District)- usually 2 or 3 degrees colder than other Midland areas.
Some coats have a proper warmth rating.. but I can't equate these. Can anyone shed light on warmth?
Also I'm a 5ft 8, long armed person.. usually a size 14 in coats.. do i order a,size 14 whichever coats? Thanks

Pearlywunzel · 29/01/2022 14:13

Hi @Geo700, I just bought the Didrikson Amina, after MUCH deliberation with the other options of Luna and Erika. I'm really happy with it so far. It's really warm (I'm in the north east, so our weather is even colder than yours!) and I am the kind of person who is always cold, and it's really ticked the box for keeping me cosy.

I'm 5 foot 7 and the length is great on me (body and arms). I can't remember what size I got, but I'm a size 10 normally and used the converter to buy whatever they recommended equated to a 10. It's plenty roomy, so no need to size up like with some coats.

There's a knack to the zip, which I found fiddly at first, but am fine with now. I've been wearing mine daily since Christmas and I'm a big fan. I got the Pecan colour, and it's a lovely tan colour that goes with everything. Oh, and the hood is huge and stays up in the wind. Hope you make a decision - I agonised for ages, but am pleased with my choice!

Geo700 · 03/02/2022 19:00

Thank you @Pearlywunzel Im 5ft 8, size 12/14... but usually a size 14 in coats...so I'm guessing I'd need a size 40.
I know the D coats have different warmth ratings. I'd probably hang on for the Luna to be on sale if i could be sure itd warm enough... as I'm thinking the Erika and similar model Mea, while warm, may feel too short if it's half way up my thigh length.

MsDastardley · 03/02/2022 19:32

I’ve got the Luna and love it. It’s not ultra padded but is warm and waterproof. I am same size as you as I bought a 16 and it fits well, not too bug. I find a lot I’d Didrikson coats come up small. I also have a Toruń, which is similar to Amina. That is definitely warmer, sometimes too much. That’s a oversized style and the 12 is plenty big enough.
