Wedding dress help

Hello
NC for this
We are getting married in early February at the local registry office. I am currently looking for a dress and struggling - hoping you s&b experts can help.

I am size 8 just over 5'3 height. Ideally I want an ankle length dress/maxi. it's only immediate family attending and plan for small meal in a pub afterwards ( if covid allows). Therefore nothing too flash or "traditional wedding" but something that does say "getting married" in the photos. I rarely wear dresses therefore I want to look like I made an effort. Max budget £150-200

I think my expectations v reality are making this difficult.

Hi OP, not an expert (sorry) but
What colour(s) are you thinking of?
What styles do you like/suit your figure, ie flowing, figure hugging, sleeves, strapless etc. Would you possibly like a dress & jacket?
There was a thread recently where the OP was thinking of a cape/flowing dress combo.
Any thoughts?

Something like these over a nice long dress (just an example, not too wedding dress but special). February can be cold

I’ve had a couple of friends get dresses recently from high street brands with wedding ranges which have been great and would fit your budget.
Monsoon, Whistles, Phase Eight, ASOS and French Connection all do bridal ranges that I know of and I’m sure there must be more

KormaKormaChameleon · 17/10/2020 15:14

If modcloth will ship to you I think they have some nice options for more low.key wedding dresses

firstimemamma · 17/10/2020 15:16

Our wedding will be similar to yours and I bought a beautiful dress from monsoon (did cost £350 though).

CoffeeBeansGalore · 17/10/2020 15:24

The dresses I posted pics of are both under £150 from www.sexyher.co.uk. They are a UK company. I ordered dresses (full length prom) for both my daughters from here and they were both good quality & looked lovely. The name is rather misleading so don't be put off.

FizzyPink · 17/10/2020 15:29

Gosh ASOS actually have really lovely bridal dresses.
Also if you use Klarna you can order several to try and only pay when you decide to keep one

WWYD2020 · 17/10/2020 15:29

I’ve just bought one from phase eight, was down to £300 from 450. The poppy one. They emailed a discount code if you want it.

Some lush high street options. Have you looked at chichi?

Sasuma · 17/10/2020 15:31

Ghost often have long dresses in light colours, like this one www.johnlewis.com/ghost-bella-dress/oyster/p3132833
You could also look at bridesmaid dresses as there will often be lighter coloured dresses at more affordable price points in the bridesmaid ranges.

I’d pair a beautiful simple silky dress with a faux fur jacket in an ivory for a winter wedding.

Mammyofasuperbaby · 17/10/2020 15:38

My wedding is going to be the same as yours but in December. Im wearing a midi length ballgown skirt with a white cardi, dusky pink heels and my trusty leather jacket for outside.
For context I'm 4'11

I love JJS House. They have all sillouttes and styles. You can scroll for styles or prices. It will take around 20 days to be made for you.

Tea20 · 17/10/2020 15:49

Thanks everyone, lovely dress ideas and places to buy.

Love the look of the bolero style cover and would work well to make it a little more special (and yes I'm up north therefore it will be cold).

To answer a few questions, I prefer styles that are not low cut/ v neck. Free flowing in the middle to hide the excess baby weight I never shifted Blush

Colour wise, Ivory/white I guess but happy to look at silver/light grey

Lovely ideas thank you and good thinking to look at bridesmaids styles.

£120 from ASOS, says wedding and shape would hide any tummy bits

Chi chi London are doing a fabulous range at the moment in your price range. Lots of options to choose from. www.chichiclothing.com/collections/bride?gclid=CjwKCAjwrKr8BRB_EiwA7eFapt-FSnQoNi3shUHtn-4lLfW9uVqK6tHpzucL0MbEqGEIit-YTVWfvhoCVbgQAvD_BwE

This - I ordered mine from jjs house, was a little dubious but it came within time frame and fits like an actual glove (a little low at front but can be altered) all for 120 quid
goose1964 · 18/10/2020 11:47

JJs house was where my daughter's friend ordered her bridesmaids dresses. Although she supplied measurements none of the dresses fitted and even after alterations they were still out of proportion. Think boobs too high and waist too low.

NotMeNoNo · 18/10/2020 16:55

Do you fancy 1950s style, above ankle length with great shoes for instance. Fairygothmother you might find something in the sample sale.
