I will be cold now until sometime next spring. I always have 3-4 layers on, usually a thermal a vest and a couple of jumpers.
I have always been this way- not much of me. Quite happy in very high temps though.
My house is cold.
I have a Didriksons coat which I have lived in for 6 months of the year for the past 4 years now. It is starting to lose its warmth factor sadly- but has done very well and I do love it.
I can't see any Diddrikons styles I like atm so was wondering if anyone had recommendations for any other Seriously warm coats

These are seriously warm coats - but with a serious price tag too. (I couldn't afford one, but they are highly rated.)

Watching with interest

Bloomburger · 16/10/2020 15:47

I have a Canada goose coat and it's warm but I also have an almost floor length Lululemon coat called a Winter Warrior Long Parka which is like walking around in your duvet. It is seriously warm but also v light.

CMOTDibbler · 16/10/2020 15:49

Lands End coats which are in their 'warmest' category. I have one of their down coats, and have been toasty in -28'C with just normal office clothing underneath

nc1962 · 16/10/2020 15:56

I am constantly cold so I have given up on style and go for the zip up sleeping bag look. It's the only thing that works for me!

AnaViaSalamanca · 16/10/2020 16:16

If you don't care about style and don't mind looking like you are on the way to summit mont blanc it's better to dress in layers: mid layer (fleece), insulation layer (800 fill goose down), shell for wet days.

The insulation layer you can buy from patagonia or arcteryx, or yeti, fjern etc. Don't compromise on this and don't buy synthetic filling.

AnaViaSalamanca · 16/10/2020 16:17

Canada goose I am afraid has serious eithical issues around coyotes though, otherwise I have heard the coats are quite warm.

anomletteandaglassofwine · 16/10/2020 16:20

Lands End stadium squall. You won't win any awards for style, but it's very well designed, incredibly warm and well priced

Sasuma · 16/10/2020 16:20

Canada Goose uses real down and real fur. I personally would not want to support them.

I bought a really warm puffer from Save The Duck which is ethically made (no down). They have different warmth ratings - warm, very warm and extremely warm - which helps decide what’s best for you. I got a ‘warm’ and it’s best for +10 to -5 C so should cover all of the winter where I am, where it would almost never be colder than -5.

WellTidy · 16/10/2020 16:25

Bloody hell, I’d never seen coats priced at £1200 each before. Look really toasty though.

BigButtons · 16/10/2020 16:27

Thanks will check these out.
I do like the idea of down but since I live in my coat it needs to be washed quite frequently and i can't do that with down.
I think i am going to have to give up on style- the Didrikksons looks goo though and I got loads of compliments when it was new.
@Bloomburger I like the idea of a portable duvet. Would you say it is warmer than your Canada goose?

Are you me, OP? I'm ALWAYS cold.
I have a North Face Arctic Parka which keeps me pretty toasty on those January days watching DS play football.

Now if you have any suggestions for keeping my feet warm though I'd be grateful. Winter boots with fleece insoles and marino wool socks and I'm still at risk of frostbite!

BigButtons · 16/10/2020 16:31

@sandieshaw
Ah, cold feet and hands- all horrid. I dread the winter, really dread it. I teach in a school that has rubbish heating and we have to have the windows open so It is as cold inside as outside and I often wear a coat and gloves in the classroom- even at these temps.Sad

I bought a coat - sort of like a silver parka but no fur - from an Army & Navy that is the warmest thing I've ever owned. It was brand new and I think was an Arctic coat used by the Finnish or Norwegian navy - something like that anyway. Forty quid!

BigButtons · 16/10/2020 16:37

I have had a look at the lululemon and save the duck. Lovely coats but I need a big hefty hood, preferably with a fur edge as my ears get painfully achey in the cold and wind( hats make my head itch). God I am a sad case.

Take a look at mountain warehouse. If you dont mind down, Anything with 700+ fill will keep you toasty. But get something also windproof, things like uniqlo are lovely but you freeze at the first puff of wind.

Totally agree 3 layers work really well, but my warmest coat is a mountain warehouse coat that has the windproof and down layer built in

BigButtons · 16/10/2020 17:06

Thanks will do.
My old didrikson has an adjustable hood too so it stays on my head and doesn't fall over my eyes.
Got to for a steal from a company that's no longer trading- not sure I can afford real pricesShock

Sasuma · 16/10/2020 17:42

@BigButtons yeah the Save The Duck ones don’t have the big furry hoods. I have one from several years ago from Parka London, how about these:
