Philipps Lumea on offer today on Amazon and I have a question about it!

So, even with today's discount it's £299 so a big outlay and not a great time for us financially. However, I'm spending a lot of time plucking dark hairs from my face at the moment so if it works I think it might be worth the investment. For ref I'm white with brownish blonde hair so the colouring combo that's meant to work for Lumea.

But, I read that the Lumea doesn't touch white/grey hair. At the moment, the hairs are almost all either blonde or dark (the ones that bother me most because they stand out) but I've noticed one or two white ones and I've no idea how hair growth works. If I get rid of all the dark ones using this device will it kill those hair follicles totally so that a white or grey hair can't eventually grow there? i.e. would I in the long run be reducing my count of white and grey hairs? Or will it not make any difference?

Not sure if I'm being clear but essentially my concern is that I will spend £300 on a device that will get rid of some dark hairs that I'm otherwise plucking now but in 5-10 years when my hairs are mostly white I'll have as many chin hairs as I'd have had anyway. So, it'll just mean that I'm faffing with a Lumea for a few years before my hairs turning white rather than simply plucking them out with a pair of tweezers.

Any insight much appreciated!

These devices work by "putting the follicles to sleep" but they only work on dark hair, so it will have no effect on white / grey hairs. They will still be there & grow back.

It's not permanent and you'll have to top up forever (monthly / bimonthly / other) depending.

If you will be all grey in 5 years not sure I'd bother tbh

I use it to keep chin hairs at bay but it doesn't zap them forever. Some are white so it doesn't work for them at all but the dark ones are so conspicuous at perimenopause that I was prepared to pay for the Lumea. Do ensure that you recharge the battery regularly otherwise it stops working.

Tweezing was causing spots and scarring hence the Lumea instead

Thanks, all - very helpful! I think maybe I'm not convinced it's worth the investment if it's not permanent.

I've no idea how long it'll be before I'm fully white/grey - I'm 42 and am noticing a lot of white /grey in the hair on my head now!

I think it is brilliant and I recommend it. It is a bit of a hassle on legs and bikini but not at all a hassle on face and I think you would be pleased with the results.

It won't work on either blonde or white hair if you have white skin. You need contrast between the skin and hair for it to work. Similarly it won't work on dark brown skin even though the hair is dark. I think it's brilliant but I have a medium skin tone and very dark hair so have enough contrast for it to work perfectly.

Medium skin tone and brown hair here. It worked perfectly. Too well. So much that hair hasn't grown back in years. Anyone with this problem? I hope axillary hair doesn't become fashionable Grin
I've been thinking of selling mine as I haven't used it in so long! It's a Philips SC2003/00 Lumea IPL Hair Removal System if you are interested :)

I can't sleep and am now looking at how they work ...

Ineedflour · 15/10/2020 13:28

If you are someone who it works for, the Lumea is life changing. I have v pale skin and v dark hair.

iwanttolookbetter · 15/10/2020 16:26

I was thinking of buying this for my legs. The hair on my legs is still quite dark but I'm not wondering if it's worth it if it's not permanent. But then some people are implying it is pretty permanent. Anyone know if the hair on your legs goes grey at the same time as the hair on your head? I've had a little grey in my head hair for years and years but my leg hair is still dark...
