Spots...Help me Help my skin!

Hi All,

For the past few years, since turning 30 really, my skin has really been getting me down as I constantly have spots. They are particularly focussed on the right side of my face and jawline. I get the odd couple on my left side but thats mostly clear.
I have a couple of spots that regularly come up red and sore and settle after a few days into a non painful under the skin lump, only to raise up again a few days later.
My skin isn't oily which seems to be what a lot of the acne type products are aimed at ('oily/acne prone'), it's more on the dry side and if I don't moisturise it quickly drys out and gets a bit flaky.
I used to only get spots around my period (still do get those ones) but my skin is like this all month nowadays...
I've added a picture of what it's currently like and I'm wondering if anyone has found anything on the market that has really helped to clear their skin. Especially if it looked similar to mine and is more on the dry side!
Thanks!

Have you been to see your GP OP? The only thing that ever really got my skin under control was a combined prescription of Duac gel at night, Differin gel in the morning and Spironlactone tablets once a day. Please see your GP if you can, I battled acne for years with over the counter treatments and creams, and nothing really got it completely under control. It was sorted relatively quickly once I had the correct prescription from my GP.

Hi Wildwood,
Thanks for your post. GP was probably going to be my next option but I felt like I might be making a big deal of it and wanted to make sure I hadn't missed anything else out there first. Good to hear that your GP was able to prescribe some things to keep your skin under control! I'll make a note of them for when I go to see them!

GP for sure. There are lots of treatments to try.

If they don’t work get a referral to a dermatologist. Roaccutane has a very high success rate.

Definitely gp, I wasted time and money for years but medication cleared it up quickly Smile

Hi @ThedietstartsonMonday, yes I felt the same, like the doctor wouldn't take me seriously but they were actually very sympathetic, and I expect very used to people coming in with these sorts of issues. Put it this way, if you had a persistent rash on your face that never cleared up you wouldn't hesitate to see a doctor, so think about it the same way:)

Fluffycloudland77 · 16/10/2020 15:14

That’s quite a deep infection, you’re not making a fuss at all. Ask for time frames on how long you give each treatment before trying the next treatment.

Dianette is fantastic if you are happy to go on the pill. If you don’t want to go down the medication route then dermatica is fab and I also take DIM supplements. I still get the odd cyst at the time of the month but nothing I can’t manage now

Fluffycloudland77 · 16/10/2020 16:14

I think op will get oral antibiotics, that’s a proper infection there with a lot of inflammation. You need to prevent scarring when it’s like that.

goose1964 · 16/10/2020 17:47

I had spots like that, it went after using a topical antibiotic.

Sorry it's been a few days since I last came on to check my thread. I have an appointment booked with the doctors next week, thanks for all your advice :)

Do you sleep on your right hand side? If so changing your pillowcase more regularly, even every night, may help too
