Double chin - please PLEASE tell me there's something I can do about it? Pics

I'm not overweight, 5'4", size 8-10 in most shops. I'm 27yo.

I've recently seen a video of myself filmed by my DP and I could've cried. As long as I don't talk I'm ok but as soon as my mouth starts moving this weird double chin starts popping out under my jaw and my face distorts, it looks very bad. The pictures are very cropped as I really don't want to be outed - I've family and friends on here. But please don't tell me they unflattering angles - they really are not, they're not from underneath or anything like that just straight on, there's other people on the video and no one looks like that when they talk or gets a random double chin when they do something other than stare right at the camera without taking. It's like my whole face kind of retreats backwards as I talk and this excess skin comes forward. It's very hard to describe.

On the picture with the arrows you can see one pointing to where my chin is and the other to where the skin appears.
Also I've noticed these sagging smile lines which add 20 years onto me when caught on camera.

It actually looks a lot worse when you see the full picture vs the cropped ones.

I don't have a defined jawline from the side and now I'm noticing it more and more. I know some people might say that's just normal but it's really affecting my self esteem.
Could anyone please advise what I can do about it.

Is there facial exercises, any beauty treatments? Do I need to loose more weight? Do I need to perhaps study at the way I talk?
Any advice would be very appreciated.

I had a bad double chin when I was a healthy weight 52kg (I'm 5 ft so that is bmi 22.5) Got to 50 kg and lost the double chin, my jowly look, and about 10 years off my face. So the difference only 4 lbs made to my face was incredible. Not telling you to lose weight, but it did work for me.

Oh, and I started mewing (tongue placement exercise) about a year ago which might be a load of old tosh but I really do think it's made my jawline better.

Thanks. I might look into loosing some more weight...

How fit are you? As you can be slim but not fit and still carry excess fat in the places you don't want to. And yes even if healthy weight, some people are better at the lower end of their healthy weight range and some are fine higher up.
So if you are already at the low end of BMI and quite skinny then exercise more but if you are at high end of healthy BMI try to lose some weight and will probably help.

workshy44 · 13/10/2020 13:16

I am v slim but any weight I put on goes straight to my face
Its not a skin but a weight issue, if you lose a few pounds they will go

Its the pits, I have to keep pretty thin or else my face looks v podgy and jowley

AriettyHomily · 13/10/2020 13:28

Angle the video from top and you probably won't have it

user43 · 13/10/2020 13:48

I agree with pp. I am a healthy weight but I have that, I know if I loose a few pounds it will go.

Otherwise, think about adjusting your posture and the way you hold your head (if that makes sense) you might be able to make it disappear

coronafiona · 13/10/2020 14:12

You could have the excess removed by plastic surgery I'm sure

70sduvet · 13/10/2020 18:00

Unfortunately it might just be your face.
It's my face too.
I have been pretty dangerously underweight (through illness 5'5" and well under 7st) and we all know how competitive MN likes to be about melting off the pounds.
At my lowest weight I still had a double chin.
I think it's posture related. Genetics maybe too. It looks better if I remember to keep my neck straight and my shoulders back and I am trying really hard to not look down at my phone and computer but to have them at eye level.
When it really annoys me I Google fat melting injections. They are ££££ and look really painful so it's not going to happen for me.
Most of the time I massage my chin and jaw line really well to try and firm it up. I live in hope!!!!
If you lose a few pounds and your chin goes away great! But please do not fall into a pit of trying to diet your chin away. It might just be your face.
And as I'm constantly told... no one really notices it but me.

bumhead · 13/10/2020 18:19

There are PDO threads, Lipodissolve or Aqualyx injections, or even a bit of filler in the chin will help.

PerfidiousAlbion · 13/10/2020 18:24

You could try filler in your jaw and chin to even out your profile. If that doesnt work then a touch of fat melting might help. I also agree with a pp that it might be postural as you seem to hold your chin back and down instead of up and forwards.

The arrows made me Laugh..Incase we couldn't figure it out Grin

Mellonsprite · 13/10/2020 19:54

Maybe you just have a small chin? You really don’t sound overweight. I saw myself talking in a video and my mouth and bottom teeth showing looked horrific.

gamerchick · 13/10/2020 19:56

The main reason for this problem is excessive looking down at a mobile phone.

There are exercises you can do for your face but ultimately getting out of the mobile phone habit is the best thing you can do.

We you really don't know that this is the case. I had a double chin in my 20s long before everyone had mobile phones and I was also a size 8 at the time.

OP, I use a small face roller on my chin and have done for the past 30 years (morning and night). It's not perfect but it definitely does help.

sunshinerayz · 13/10/2020 21:51

Thanks everyone, re watching the video I definitely do hold my head oddly when I talk, my face almost goes back which most likely contributes to the double chin too.

Sorry @user43 I was a bit worried the crop was going to make the already poor quality pictures even worse.

That has to feel nice though, relaxing Grin

WhatamessIgotinto · 13/10/2020 22:34

@gamerchick it really does, especially in summer when I stick it in the fridge!

gamerchick · 13/10/2020 22:40

Ah I'm sold man. I want a chin roller Grin
