Non-comedogenic, anti aging skincare?!

Hi all,

I have the lovely dual problem of crepey skin and large/ blocked pores.

Seems like everything on the market is either designed to target pores (and makes lines worse in the process) or "anti-aging" but makes my pores blocked and terrible.

I'm avoiding anything with silicone in as a) it just masks both problems and b) makes both problems worse the next day.

Things i've tried: The Ordinary - only the niaciaminide made a slight difference and then stopped working for some reason.

Clarins - seems to have lots of unnecessary perfume/silicone and does nothing for me.

La Roche Posay Effaclar - did help pores look less blocked/ slightly smaller but did nothing for crepeyness - may even hàve made it worse as felt really harsh when i got it in my eyes.

Help!!!

Budget is ££ rather than £££. Looking for a whole regimen including exfoliating if possible.

I'm only 39 but i think a combination of bad genes and harsh anti-acne meds in my 20s has messed me up.

Try the hado labo range in Superdrug.
Watch nadine baggots video of the items esp the red Tokyo range

I wrote of a lot of ingredients that were in The Ordinary range but turns out I'm perfectly fine with them in certain other ranges.

Seconding Hada Labo, and SE Asian (mainly Japanese and Korean) beauty ranges in general. The Waso Jelly lotion (Shiseido) is marvellous stuff for hydration.

Ooh that sounds interesting @xingming and @flyingbytheseatof - i think a trip to Superdrug may be on the cards.

That's interesting about The Ordinary - i had such high hopes for their weird dark red acid mask thing - but if anything my skin looked much worse afterwards. Same with various things suspended in squalene, which blocked my pores no end.

Same the TO products just didn't suit me really.

So I would get the Hado Labo Tokyo anti ageing super hydrator (apply a couple of drops into palm of hands on slightly damp skin and rub all over face) followed by the anti-ageing day cream. It's currently buy one and get another half price in Superdrug.

Give Dermatica a try. The first month is free, you just pay about £3 postage and packaging.

I'm about 8 weeks in and the difference is amazing.

Hi @RuffleCrow

My skin is exactly the same as yours. Silicones, oil, wax, shea butter etc are all a recipe for pepperoni pizza with extra sweetcorn face.

I know you haven't had a good experience with The Ordinary but my routine, which has helped a lot, is...

In the evening their Retinoid 2% Emulsion and nothing else. It's free of everything that hates me, and it's the only retinoid product they do which isn't in a squalene base.

In the morning I use L'Oreal Paris Revitalift Filler Serum which has a teeny tiny amount of hydrogenated castor oil but not enough to cause even me any problems, followed by The Ordinary's Natural Moisturizing Factors + HA moisturiser.

I also sometimes, not every day, use salicylic acid toner as a cleanse in the evening if I haven't been wearing make up.

I have incredibly tough skin - I swear there's a rhino somewhere in my family tree - and this would be too harsh or not moisturising/soothing enough for most skins. But for me it's done wonders.

FlyingByTheSeatof · 11/10/2020 01:13

Thats interesting Feedingthebirds.

The TO Retinoid 2 % emulsion did nothing for me and I went through a couple of bottles. I've since moved on to stronger and better formulated retinols. The TO moisturiser brought me out in lumps and bumps on my cheeks. I guess the only thing is to try out a few products at a time OP based on recommendations re your skin type - most common being combination / dehydrated.

I thought my skin hated oil, shea butter, niacinamide, Vit C god knows what else but actually it doesn't always.

Tonight I've got products on with oil and shea butter which I used to run a mile from but my skin now loves as its a bit drier due to retinol use.

Thanks all. Hada Labo fans, I'm just checking out with a few products on superdrug. I notice their day cream doesn't have SPF. So which non-comedogenic spf would you recommend wearing with it? I'm trying to avoid the shiny, shiny look as it only makes the crepeyness more obvious.

Biore Watery Essence is what you need. Buy it on Amazon as it's not actively sold here. Should cost less than £10, including postage from Japan.
