Dubarry boots. A good alternative?

Love the Galway country boots. Not so in love with the price. Looking for warm and waterproof similar style. Any suggestions or do I raid my kids piggy bank?

Have you looked at Rydale?

www.rydale.com/products/ladies-tullymore-iii-slim-fit-leather-boots?variant=16265372893255 There's a few different styles. Lots of folk wear them round here - I got suckered into buying a pair at a county show a few years ago after too much scrumpy and romantic visions of long muddy walks with a dog that I didn't yet own Blush They're still going strong, waterproof and warm with a decent pair of thick boot socks. Still don't have the dog.

Ariat Langdale boots... not as pricey as Dubarry (£185) but utterly fabulous and so so comfy. Come in half sizes and different widths too.

I LOVE mine. Ariat are fab quality and designed to last.

Liquorishlucy · 09/10/2020 23:21

Aigle parcours. Got them for about £100 on black thursday a couple of years ago. Super warm and really comfortable.

Lexilooo · 10/10/2020 00:28

Ariats, the most comfortable winter footwear I own. I have lots 😳

Evilwasps · 10/10/2020 00:45

I would go with the Dubarry boots, they are well worth the cost. I've had mine for 10 years, wear them all the time, especially in winter, and they still look great when I give them a good clean (they're usually muddy from dog walking). I really want to buy another pair but I can't justify it while the ones I have are still going strong!

TTCAbroad · 10/10/2020 02:36

I love my Dubarry boots so much - I would raid the piggy bank for them. If your willing to wait and watch they do go on sale!

I've had mine for three years and, with good care, they still look and feel excellent so I expect many more years out of them.

NotBabiesForLong · 10/10/2020 02:45

Dublin rover boots. I have had Dublin pinnacle for years. Highly recommend them. And they were the only boots I could fit my mammoth calves in.

Itllbeaninterestingchristmas · 10/10/2020 02:48

I wouldn’t go for the rydale boots, not had them myself but I know people who have and they’ve not lasted. I like Dublin boots I can’t remember which ones I’ve got but they are very good and long lasting and I can wear boots out fast.

Dublin river boots

Cheesybiscuits01 · 10/10/2020 06:53

Thanks for the suggestions. I'll have a look. If it were my piggy bank I might raid it but I can't raid my kids to buy boots for me! Or can I?

I did not pick up on the fact you wrote your kids piggy bank! I retract my earlier statement Blush

wetotter · 10/10/2020 09:20

My Dubarry's lasted about 7 or 8 years before the sole started splitting away, and that can't be repaired because of type of construction.

I'm currently either in DMs or ordinary wellies, sometimes Fitflops (for touchline duties) which are not good for mud/slippery, but with that thick sole are terrifically warm.

Looking for a holy grail which covers and combines the strengths of all those 3!!

OneFootintheRave · 10/10/2020 10:39

Some really great suggestions here. Thanks for the inspo!

RuudGullitOnAShed · 10/10/2020 10:44

@wetotter have you seen that FitFlop now do a wellie?

icedaisy · 10/10/2020 12:38

I have Toggi canyon boots. Had them ten plus years. Live rural Scotland on a farm. Ride in them, walk dogs, do stuff on farm, wipe and go to town. I couldn't have justified cost of others to do all that. Not had a single problem, still look like new.

MrsVeryTired · 10/10/2020 13:57

If you don't want to pay £££ for Dubarry I'd go for Toggi or Dublin, the others like Rydale are definitely not going to be as good quality. Live in the country and Toggi and Dublin both very popular.

I'm planning some new ones for winter, bought a "new" make Kanyon and they were fab looking but didn't last, so will go with ones that have been in production for years in future, probably Toggi.

friskybivalves · 10/10/2020 13:59

For those who have Dublin River boots there are lots of reviews that say the quality has gone down with the version III. Would anyone agree before I contemplate splashing out?

FenellaMaxwell · 10/10/2020 14:03

Are you going to ride in them or just for walking?

friskybivalves · 10/10/2020 17:43

Is that for me fenellamaxwell? Mainly walking but maybe some riding too. People are saying the leather is much harder than it used to be and so the boots are less comfortable and far more difficult to break in at the beginning...

Foxinthechickencoop · 10/10/2020 17:48

Ariat Windemere or any of the Mark Todd range.
Ariat most comfortable ever footwear.
Mark Todd look more expensive and are better quality. Last longer.

I would say the Ariat if you are short and mark Todd if you are tall and slim as tiny are tall and narrow in the leg.

Lexilooo · 10/10/2020 18:36

I really wouldn't get dublin river boots the wua6is awful. I had a pair of the original ones and they fell apart after a handful of wears. I didn't even wear them at the stables just a few outdoor events.

ineedteanownotlater · 10/10/2020 19:03

I have just sent a pair of the Dublin rivers back as they were so uncomfortable. We're them in the house and could only manage 10 mins before they were really hurting. Hoping reading this thread would give me more options around the same price as I really don't want to spend the ££££ on Dubarrys
