Please help me dress myself!

Hello! I'm seeking the expertise of you knowledgeable ladies in Style and Beauty to (hopefully) help me dress myself. I'd really love to be one of those people who look put together, effortlessly cool and presentable. Right now I usually wear jeans and baggy tops, no make up and my hair scraped back in a bun. I've spent the past week trying to wear some of my nicer clothes, I've made an effort to wear make-up and to try and style my hair and I've booked myself in for a cut and colour on Tuesday!

I'm really at the point now where my size 16 clothes are getting too baggy and now look quite scruffy so would like to get some good quality basic clothes. I'm 5 ft 8, size 14 with an hourglass(ish) shape. I hate my arms as they are disproportionatly huge in comparison to the rest of me. I never wear a sleeve that is shorter than elbow length. And I have a "B" shaped tummy which makes anything fitted look awful. I love the high waisted jeans tucked in a plain shirt look with a nice belt, but with my tummy that wouldn't look good on me Blush

Can anyone recommend me some shops and maybe some flattering styles? I have a very limited budget but don't mind saving a bit and also seeing if I can pick anything up on ebay or in charity shops. I tend to wear plain clothes, normally black but emerald green and cobalt blue suits me. I stay away from patterns but do have the odd floral patterned dress and multiple stripey tops.

I also have huge size 9, extra wide feet so getting shoes is a struggle. I've heard good things about Duo Boots but they are way out of my price range 😔 I normally buy my shoes from Evans or Simply Be but I'm fed up of having a pair of boots that last less than a year before they start to break and I get soggy feet, so would Duo Boots be worth the investment?

I will try to attach some pictures but not sure I will be able to as I'm having diffuculty posting anything with a picture attached!

You're all so lovely, thank you! I've just spent far too long browsing New Looks website and have quite a few things in my basket, including 2 pairs of those jeans that were recommended.

I have trouble with trainers as normally I can't find any in my size that I like, I have stolen a plain black pair of DPs trainers though which I like so hopefully I can find the same pair and get my own. I've also found some nice boots that I'm watching on ebay so fingers crossed I may be able to get a bargain Smile

@BeccaBloomwood I don't buy masses from ASOS own brand but use them to get fast delivery from a mix of other places. So Adidas, topshop, and other brands are on there. I pay £9.99 ( I think) for free premium delivery for a whole year and have my address and DD1s so she and I get fast delivery and returns are easy. I only shop online so find paying for delivery like this helps me and as I never pay fr petrol or parking for shopping I think it balances out!
They also have trainers and I have previously ordered 3 or 4 pairs to try and return eg Adidas converse Birkenstock. They have excellent clearance and sales too. My kids laugh as I still call them 'as seen on screen' as that's the name I knew them by a million years ago. Next are similar as they sell all, sorts including tesco Florence and Fred. It's easier imo if you are a bit lacking in confidence to get a ton of stuff and try it all on at home and then return.

Also, watch trinny on YouTube! She does makeovers which are a bit hilarious but I find them helpful. I had a total crisis after chemo and then having a very sick daughter and losing all my self confidence and about 2 years ago metaphorically shook myself and started to lose a bit of weight, do yoga and then start to dress 'nicely' for myself. I don't have fancy stuff but I think most days I look good. Why not look on the outfit of the day thread and see what we all wear day to day? Good luck

You look like you are long waisted rather than having long legs. So you, imv, should wear things that fit the waist rather than baggy. Emphasise your long midriff. But not stretchy fabrics that highlight flabby bits - these don't suit anyone imv.

OP, you have a lovely figure and your arms look slim to me. As previous posters have said, don’t sell yourself short, be proud of the beautiful woman you clearly are Smile
