I'm not the only one whose documents' pics look more like a mug shot, right? Grin Are there any ladies who can say they love their passport photos, though? Can you please share some tips on how to look better in it? I'm going to get a few pcs for my driving license and visa, so I'd really need some advice.

The guy at passport control once stopped me and advised me to get a new photo because it was so bad. Blush

@ScrapThatThen

Go to an actual photo shop rather than a booth and get them to keep trying until you get one you like.
I tried this but I felt judged as being too vain when I kept rejecting the pictures and asking them to take it again. This is how I ended up looking like a drunk at the end of a binge on my driving licence

It's amazing how many Myra Hindleys there are about 😂

I genuinely worry about being mistaken for a child killer... (only from the photo you understand 🤦‍♀️)

My auntie is around 50 now and I saw her passport recently and she looked really young in it but it was her current one so complimented her on it. She told me that she had gotten a really good picture taken when she was around 30 so got multiples of the picture and just reuses them when the passport is up for renewal 😆 her last one was done before the online renewals had come in so not sure if it'll work next time!

I think everyone hates their ID photos, even if you like it at the time you may very well cringe a few years down the line. I had brown hair when I took my license/passport photos, but it annoyingly looks brassy/ginger in the photos and I cringe every time I pull it outBlush

I think go for classic - neutral makeup, generic black top etc. I would have my hair loose, straight with a centre parting. Would ensure my colour is fresh - I’m blonde now so no dark roots or brassy toner.

This might sound like a faff, but I think (subtle) false eyelashes make a difference when taking photos in booths. Your face won’t look as flat and your eyes will stand out more? It’s the saving grace of my photos

You know what they say - if you look like your passport photo, you're too ill to travel!

Frappuccinofan · 08/10/2020 21:55

Also if you go to a photo booth, some have been updated where you only pay once you select a photo - so you essentially get infinite retakes and won’t waste money if you don’t like any of them.

I have yet to have a decent passport photo and whenever I renew it, am forcefully reminded that I look crap and older.
My last one was done just before I filed for divorce so I also look tired and pissed off.
On a day when I’ve had to get up at 3am for an early flight, it’s probably flattering.

Spiderbaby8 · 09/10/2020 00:44

I don't think anyone could beat how bad my passport one was. I was ill but had to send it off asap, so dragged myself out of my sick bed, got the photo, looked like death warmed up and too fatigued to even retake it after one snap. It was bad enough but then somehow they cut the snap at a funny angle at the passport office, I am not even sure how it passed. When it arrived in the post I could have cried.

Audreyseyebrows · 09/10/2020 00:47

It’s law to look awful in your ID pic!

MyNameForToday1980 · 09/10/2020 00:53

In my old passport I looked great, like some sort of Jewish princess (am Jewish), sadly I looked much better in that photo than I ever did in real life.

My current passport photo is...okay. Probably a much truer representation of how I look.

Poor DD (4) looks like an actual loaf of bread in her passport photo.
