Well, i've ruined my Mulberry wallet...

It's cream. I always knew it was a risky decision to buy a cream wallet. So the inevitable has happened and it has biro on it and other contents-of-handbag related injuries.

I know this isn't the housekeeping section of MN but I was wondering if anyone had any bright ideas on giving this it's life back?

Do I risk rubbing the colour off the leather with a cleaning product?

I think I would try rubbing it with a bit of vaseline or coconut oil on a soft cloth. It may act like a solvent and remove any markings without damaging the leather.

Don't baby wipes take everything off anything? Could be worth a go.

I spilt red wine all over my bag and mulberry fixed it for me! I’d contact them for advice.

greyspottedgoose · 05/10/2020 17:04

I'm sure someone had a magic tip for biro on a post recently about new baby clothes being ruined in the wash? But I have no idea how to link to it so hopefully someone more knowledgeable will come along

Hairspray on a cotton bud. Test an inconspicuous area first but can’t really ruin it any more than it already is if it’s covered in biro

MotheringShites · 05/10/2020 17:04

Mulberry customer services have been great when I’ve had bag disasters before.

combatbarbie · 05/10/2020 17:07

I second the hairspray.... But dab it as if you were blotting, don't spread it

ThisTooShallPassHopefully · 05/10/2020 17:08

Hairspray as previously suggested. It looks wise before it gets better though. It kinda liquifies/melts the ink. But wipe, and reapply, and it will remove it.
A cotton bud is a good idea because it won't damage the surface of the leather.
Has to be done yo believe it.

Eye makeup remover

SlopesOff · 05/10/2020 17:15

I used the alcohol that is being sold for hand sanitising, 100%, it is also used for cleaning tech items. Not sure I would use it on a high value item though. Mine was just a used bag and the marks didn't really show a lot.

It didn't remove them but they had been on there for a while.

If you Google it you will find a lot of suggestions, soapy water seems to be popular for general marks, biro is not so easy, especially if it has been on there for a while.

Look up a Handbag Clinic they saved my Bayswater when I completely fucked it

RevolutionRadio · 05/10/2020 17:25

I've found Lynx gets permanent marker off things. Spay on, blot off with a tissue.

I'd test it on an area that isn't seen so much.

IDontMindMarmite · 05/10/2020 17:58

Oh lots of suggestions, thank you! I'll have to go out and buy hairspray.

Hope you get it sorted. I need to figure out how to get out the remnants of an sticky drumstick lolly that one of my cherubs has thrown into my mulberry handbag.

PH03b3 · 05/10/2020 18:16

There are some excellent Facebook groups of Mulberry fans, they often get posts with mishaps like this and give really good advice it might be worth posting on there.

TattiePants · 05/10/2020 20:53

Message Louise at Love Lolo on facebook and ask for her recommendations. She sells leather care products for high end bags and is very knowledgeable about Mulberry.

IDontMindMarmite · 05/10/2020 21:42

Done, thank you.
