Around two months ago my original Babyliss Big Hair, which had served me well for about eight years, gave up (fuse, I think.) A week and three hair washes and unsatisfactory home blowdries later, I replaced it with this one which is just a newer version of the one I had.
Over the years I've owned one, I have worn my hair cheekbone length, chin length, shoulder length and collar bone length (and all the growing out stages in between.) My hair is fine and straight with a tendency to kink a bit when it's shorter.
The absolute key with Big Hair is, before you use it have your hair 80% dry. Either let it dry naturally, or with the hairdryer, blasting roughly and lifting your hair with your hands (I go head upside down.) The other things I'd say are keep the sections narrower than the barrel is long and not too thick, and that you might need a couple of goes to get the tension correct and not over-wind. You get to a point with practice where you can sort of let the revolving brush spin free under each section and then you use the reverse-wind button to release that section before moving onto the next one. Otherwise, it's just "hello, smooth finish, volume and root lift and hello nicely curled out or under layers, or bob, or whatever-you've-got."
I can't speak from experience but I'm not sure that fancier models would offer you much more, unless you have a specific hair styling need for the 'care' or the 'dual' versions. If your hair is shorter than chin length maybe the smaller barrelled 'petite' version would be better.
