Breakouts when using facial oil?

I’ve been using these Elemis facial oil capsules morning and night for three days and I’m seeing spots around my mouth and on my chin. I don’t get spots often and I’m nearly mid cycle so I don’t think it is hormonal.

Maybe it is that the oil is too heavy (although the reviews don’t seem to suggest that other people find this)? I have dry skin, so you’d have thought that oil would be good for it. I cleanse, use hyaluronic acid and eye cream and then the oil. I can’t imagine using the oil on top of moisturiser as I don’t think it would absorb well. It takes a while to absorb as it is.

Any ideas please?

Elemis products are quite highly fragranced, so it could be that causing the breakouts. Or your skin just doesn’t like oil.

I bought the Zelens oil after rave reviews and am now trying to clear up horrid little cystic spots on my chin after 2 uses! I’ve gone back to The Ordinary squalene which I’ve never had any issues with. And is a 12th of the price Shock

I prefer a 'plain' oil - although the fancy Elemis/clarins etc ones seem lovely, I don't think they're any better for your skin than plain rose hip, squalane or pumpkin seeds oil and, like @TeddyIsaHe says, they're quite heavily fragranced.

If anything makes you break out stop using it.

I was getting spots round my mouth and chin for ages, kept changing products but eventually worked out that it was my toothpaste! It had SLS in which can cause spots.

I like the ordinary stuff too.

Thanks all. I think I will use them up on my forehead and neck instead. I don’t think it’s my toothpaste as I’ve only had the spots since I started using the oils. I’ve used Elemis things for a while, but never the oils before. A shame, as I was really looking forward to trying them and, on paper, they should work well with my dry skin.

I find Inika facial oil is good for not causing breakouts. Most do with me

Dry skin often needs water, not oil to effectively moisturise. Up your water drinking a bit and use a "wet" feeling moisturiser that has Hyaluronic acid in it. Oil can be used as a sealant on dry skin, so last step after moisturiser to keep the moisture in.
