What pulls your wardrobe together?

I feel I have an insane amount of clothes but struggle with outfits.

What pulls your outfits together? Also, I’m in Scotland and feel the cold so I struggle a bit with outerwear/cardigans etc...

What addition to your wardrobe has given you loads more outfits?

Classic plain good quality knitwear especially cardigans
I don’t really do separates other than jumpers and jeans so a great cardigan over my dresses works well

Where do you get these??

BeaLola · 03/10/2020 14:43

I prefer to wear dresses as I feel better in them (larger person) than being bunched up around the middle.

I do like a good classic merino cardigan to wear over the top to assist when cold/pull outfit together & have a few froml Gap/M&S/Jigsaw - in neutral grey, navy & then bright colours like blue, red etc. Also although I am larger I have a small waist & use belts to a good effect.

I agree re scarfs but I wish I was better at tyomg/finishing them better with my outfits.

Definitely lipstick/or coloured lip blam & perfume - always makes me feel better

One of my dear friends swears by pretty & good knickers in bold colours & I tried this recently & I felt I "held" myself better IYSWIM .

@Toilenstripes I've just been looking up images of The Perfect Murder wardrobe - gorgeous!

Wee update from me- I’ve put a bit more thought into my outfits over the last few days.

When I was at home relaxing, I wore some really nice All Saints leggings with the skirt attached together with a sweaty Betty sweatshirt. So looked much better than my usual thrown together relaxing gear!

Today at work I wore a Uniqlo fine merino polo neck with a midi leopard skirt and boots. I wore one of my moms 70s chunky gold pendant with it. So I felt quite stylish and pulled together. I’m not sure my coat was quite right but I’m going to get a black puffer coat.

I like the idea of trying to wear something different every day. I think a dress for work tomorrow.

How had I never heard of Arket!? Thanks to whoever recommended. I don't think my bank account will thank you though!

Goingdooolally · 06/10/2020 09:17

@Summerhillsquare what are you buying? I’ve ordered from Arket but not kept although the stuff is lovely. Quite big made.

I'm in the market for a warm slouchy jumper, but in a natural fabric.

@W00t

I have found that only using a narrow colour range has helped- almost everything I own goes with everything else. My basics are all navy, charcoal grey or black, then a few burgundy items, and a few teal. Greens and browns look lovely on me, but not smart enough for work (I look like a nature spirit, so weekends only!). Now it doesn't matter what I pull out, it will all coordinate. I got rid of all my footwear, bar 1 pair of boots, 1 pair of work shoes, 1 pair of sandals, and 1 pair of evening sandals, and 1 pair of converse. I haven't used a handbag since schools closed, as I didn't want to work out how to clean suede on a daily basis Blush It may be boring, but it's just so much easier.
I have done this too - it made such a difference. I used to buy clothes which were lovely but just wouldn't work for me, or with my favourite basics. Grey does nothing for me, neither do pastels, red turns my face into a tomato - so I don't buy them. I try to find replacements for really beloved items instead of always trying out new styles. I also got rid of all my 'novelty' shoes.

A good clear out of stuff that isn't working is crucial, when you are at 'nothing to wear' stage.
