How to get rich girl hair

Do you know what I mean? Long, swishy, usually caramel coloured, yet frames the face well, doesn't just hang there. Really thick looking right to the ends. Looks low maintenance but can't tell if it is or not. I mean I presume it's styled somehow but it just looks like it falls into place naturally, which I suppose is the point

I like my hair long, and I like the look, but post pregnancy my hair is in awful condition and just sort of hangs around looking tired.

I'm not an entirely impoverished peasant, so I wonder is this achievable or do you have to be born with it?

@Rebelwithallthecause

What is the benefit of the silk pillowcase?

I have long hair but even on a linen pillowcase I don’t wake up to knotted hair or loads that has shed in the night

Its smooth surface is why it works, which is why satin is good too.

Helps prevent frizz and keeps hair smoother and helps prevent tangles and also with hair hydration levels.
Helps prevents temporary facial crease lines and facial hydration (mainly because it doesn't absorb facial moisturiser and oils like cotton, linen and poly do).

Look on instagram at the before and after hair extensions, it's eye opening. Some of them are very good these days and well done, the women with the gorgeous hair as you describe have very normal hair with all the same problems in the 'before' shots.

Otherwise I think it's about luck and nailing the at home blow dry or having one, along with well done hand blended colour with face framing blends and layers and never wearing it dead straight especially at the ends.

I have “good hair”

I think it helps if you:

Blow dry the bits around your face only (round brush). I don’t think there’s a heat free way to get it to frame your face properly, or to get rid of frizz. I’ve tried.
Don’t dye it
Don’t wash it too often, once or twice a week maybe
Don’t brush it too often
Avoid tight hairstyles
Get a good shampoo and conditioner.. particularly conditioner

I follow someone with this kind of hair and they posted a tutorial on Instagram yesterday www.instagram.com/p/CF4GKdvAlRa/

My hair is quite similar and my recommendation is to have frequent trims and only long layers so that the hair remains thick throughout the whole length rather than wispy ends.

Frappuccinofan · 04/10/2020 18:10

I just spent £85 on a Slip silk pillowcase on the back of this threadBlush

I haven't got rich girl hair as it's only chin length but a game changer for me was switching to Tigi Urban Antidotes Resurrection no. 3. It's in massively better condition. It's in great condition now.

ReallySpicyCurry · 04/10/2020 18:16

I'm still waiting for someone to recommend a cheapo pillowcase Grin

I DID order two months supply of Cocoa Locks though. The adverts were chasing me round the Internet, and they gave me a 50% off voucher so I got it for £19 delivered

It’s about a good cut and having the other bits to complete the look. You can have fabulous hair as described and dress it with subtle but expensive makeup and jewellery or you can have the same hair surrounded by thick orange makeup with a tide mark around the jaw, huge inflated lips and giant hoop earrings.
The hair is only part of the whole.

bengalcat · 04/10/2020 18:22

I get a blowdry every 1-2 weeks and use hair oil to smooth down the frizz if I do it myself .

hopefulhalf · 04/10/2020 18:53

It is mainly genes, I have this hair ( fine, thick and wavy) as does my DM and Dd. Honestly I wash it twice a week ( wednesday and saturday). Brush it morning and evening and leave it. Also do DIY hightlights about twive a year

KnightsofColumbusThatHurt · 04/10/2020 19:28

I really think a lot of it is extensions. Just a few bits can make all the difference, and they are not necessarily for adding length, they are also used to add just a bit more volume so that it still looks totally natural.

I think a lot of people think 'extensions' and think of the glued in, ridiculously long, straight, doesn't even properly match the natural hair, type extensions. But they have come a long way, and even people with quite short hair will just get a couple of tape pieces to add a bit of oomph to their hair.

MrsVeryTired · 04/10/2020 20:00

I think Meghan M has it, albeit a dark hair version, I adore her hair. Mine is long and layered and looks fab when I blow dry it properly with a brush, I usually just blast it. I have night sweats (peri men) so have to wash it in the morning and don't have time to properly blow dry. I do the beautiful hair thing sometimes at the weekend and wear it up the rest of the time.

Try L’Occitane repair shampoo and conditioner - not the cheapest but not wild either - but my hair is now a m a z i n g!

IceniWarrior · 04/10/2020 20:32

When I dry mine with a round brush it ends up straight. How do I get a bit of swoosh?

Aria999 · 16/10/2020 14:19

This thing is amazing for swoosh

If your hair is frizzy it's possible that your shampoo is too strong. I got mine under control by using so a free shampoo, I have a solid one that seems to be everlasting, I use a silicon free conditioner with she's and castor oil. Reading up on curly girl I though my hair might need a clarifying wash. Unfortunately all my frizz returned . Three weeks on its starting to get it's smoothness back.

JanewaysBun · 16/10/2020 22:58

If yoir hair isn't naturally thick I've seen people wearing "hair choice extensions" that come in a pre blow dryed style. If my hair was thin/short I would wear these

JanewaysBun · 16/10/2020 22:59

Also my hair is prone to frizz and my parlux hairdryer sorts it!

MrsCornelius · 20/10/2020 08:39

I can’t claim rich girl hair, but my hair has dramatically improved since I did the following:
-stopped dying it and let it go grey
-switched to Afro-comb and vent brush only
-use a micro fibre turban not a towel after washing
-bought a Parlux hairdryer
Much much thicker than before, and looks pretty close to rich girl if I use hair wand on it.
The grey does require effort though, to keep yellow at bay.

Onedropbeat · 20/10/2020 19:01

When I was pregnant I had rich girl hair

Now she’s 5 months old it’s all falling out though
