Good quality warm jumpers, not too pricey?

I’m looking to buy some new warm jumpers this year, ideally in natural materials . Where do people recommend for these? Usual high street shops I shop in (H&M, Asos) mainly not natural and not very warm!

Willing to spend a bit more but not 100s on each jumper (looking at you, Toast!) - any ideas would be very welcome Smile

I am wearing M&S 100% cotton jumpers which are £19.50 full price (the crew neck ones feel thicker than the v neck ones for some reason)with an extra-warm M&S heatgen thermal layer underneath (about £15ish). The extra warm ones have a light fleece backing and they're really toasty.

I brought a couple from French Connection today, they've 20% off, easy returns too if they come and are itchy

I'm devoted to men's machine washable cashmere jumpers from Edinburgh Woollen Mill now that I've discovered them . Can be got for about £60 I think in the sale, which to me is a lot for a jumper but then I live in them for great chunks of the year so price per wear is really good.

None of my Seasalt wool jumpers have bobbled, I find them hard wearing.
Hobbs also has some lovely wool jumpers in with 20% off at the mo

For those who are suggesting merino I suggest you look up museling. It's a barbaric practise where skin around the anus is removed without any anaesthetic.

I got some lovely jack wills jumpers and cardigans off eBay.. lambswool...great condition and price..also some Gant items.

Californiabakes · 29/09/2020 01:01

Toast jumpers are fantastic, they are ridiculously expensive but I have 2, that I bought in the sales, that I wear pretty much in rotation. Both under £100 and will last for years

Namechangeforthis88 · 29/09/2020 11:16

I found Woolovers horrendous when I wanted to return a couple of things and I've never been back.

JimmyTheBrave · 29/09/2020 20:25

TK Maxx has some cashmere jumpers online, I've never bought any mind

MrDarcysMa · 29/09/2020 21:22

Uniqlo lambs wool is toasty! Size up though!

@Cuddling57

Has anyone got cashmere or merino scarf and gloves?
I've got a beautiful cashmere/wool mix scarf from &otherstories a couple of years ago

I am fed up of buying And Other Stories and French connection jumpers for £65+ which shrink in the wash. I’m definitely going to look into vintage as it will already have been washed a zillion times.

Sainsbury’s! Great knitwear and cosy jumpers this year. I have been so impressed.

itallwentwrongat30 · 30/09/2020 08:21

I buy knitwear of ebay (used but good condition) as I too struggle to find natural materials that are affordable for me. We also have a charity shop in a town about 40 minutes away I try to get to now and then as it is in a town which was famous for its several wool mills, They often have items from the local mills at pennies - and I mean pennies. Don't know if you have a similar area near by but worth a think if you don't mind second hand

Tadpolesandfroglets · 30/09/2020 08:25

Merino wool isn’t very ethical sadly. Lots of cruelty involved.

Scabetty · 30/09/2020 08:48

Thanks for mentioning museling. I had not been aware of this practice so looked it up. The following retailers don’t use museled wool: John Lewis, H&M, New Look, Next, and Topshop apparently.

Saisong · 30/09/2020 08:52

My current 2 favourite snuggly jumpers are one from Superdry (I know they put logos on everything, but the thread colour matches so not intrusive). And the other is from a Devon company called Quba Sails - they do 'sailing' clothing, but their jumpers are lovely.
Both jumpers are 100% cotton (though watch out because not all the knitwear is, from either company).

Scabetty · 30/09/2020 08:55

Celtic and co have beautiful, warm jumpers but very spendy. I try to shop in the sales the previous winter. I have two well reduced last season Toast jumpers to wear this year.

RickOShay · 30/09/2020 08:56

Ebay all the way. Or sales.

Thank you for mentioning the ethical retailers.

Tadpolesandfroglets · 30/09/2020 09:31

That’s good to know. It’s not widely known I dont think. People just presume sheep are not hurt during the shearing process.

GoAndAskDaddy · 30/09/2020 09:37

I really rate Celtic & Co..... I have a couple and they just don’t bobble. A bit of an investment though.

Gonegrey31 · 30/09/2020 18:04

I have a code for 15% off Celtic and Co, think it is a general one, not specific to me :

Have you looked at the Premium Quality and Conscious ranges at H&M? You can normally find 100% cashmere jumpers and good quality knitwear in those categories, at reasonable prices too.

lacylass · 30/09/2020 20:32

Great quality, preloved cashmere.

I hate humans. Is this all wool? 🙁
