Are men’s trainers different to women’s?

For example, the same style of Nike for men and women, are the men’s any wider and chunkier or are they just the same?

I am a size 8 so sit on the boundary between men's and women's sizes. I've found that for fashion trainers, usually if the style is the same, especially for unisex style brands such as Veja, the shoe is basically identical, except for colour ways and number of lace holes. For trainers that are sold for sport first (eg running shoes) the mens tend to be wider.

I think men's are much the same lengthwise for the sizes but men's feet may a little wider.

Muddybuddy · 25/09/2020 13:58

Ah ok thanks. My feet are quite wide so was wondering if men’s may be better for me. Maybe they will then

Check the sizes. I think that at size 7 or 8, american sizes can go a bit different.

I've been known to wear children's running shoes and they were fine apart from not looking as stylish. They were much cheaper and not pink or purple.

Running shoes wise men’s are wider.

MikeUniformMike · 25/09/2020 14:14

Yes, and unisex shoes are wider too.

I find that men's shoes in general are less pointy at the toes. The sizing is not consistent across men's and women's ranges. I'm 7.5-8 in women's, and 7 in men's. Sometimes a men's style is proportionately roomier all round, so there's too much space in the toe box, and the heel cup is deeper and wider.

Sports trainers (as opposed to fashion trainers) and walking boots are the most unisex shoes IME. Perhaps because function is the priority, rather than bending women's big toes inwards to give the appearance of having dainty little feet.

I am around a 9 and always try wherever possible to get women's trainers. I am sometimes forced to get men's as there aren't women's in my size, but men's are almost always wider and feel clunkier and heavier. If I have to buy men's, I only buy if the fit is described as narrow and I also look carefully at the shape of the shoe.

JunoJigglewick · 25/09/2020 14:46

Men's shoes are wider. I buy men's running shoes, good for my fat feet.

Bluntness100 · 25/09/2020 14:56

I think you need to try them but they seem wider to me,

AriettyHomily · 25/09/2020 15:43

I'm an 8 usually but a 7 in men's

Muddybuddy · 25/09/2020 16:01

Thanks all
