dyeing brown boots to black

I impulse bought a pair of boots last week. In my defence they are ninewest and they were down to £65 from 125 . Unfortunately they are brown and I wanted black

Do you think I can successfully dye them black? if so, how?

I don't think that would work - the black dye would wear off and then they'd look nasty
sorry

Bugger, I thought that might be the case.

Thanks for your help

I used to do this all the time in ..................(whispers) the eighties, and whilst I'm sure that the dye kits have improved since then, they seemed to sort of coat the shoe too in a rather attractive shinyness which eventually peeled. What sort of look do you want, if they don;t need to be very smart perhaps you could just use black shoe polish, but this won;t work if the leather is already coated iyswim. How shiny are they?

Sorry, did you say the EIGHTIES????

They are quite smooth and a bit shiney, damn them for making them with good quality leather.

I've decided to take them back, I found a pair in Clarks today so I think they will do.

Thanks for your help

I tried it once ..... quite a few years ago so dyes have hopefully improved. The effect was a dark bronze colour .... I ended up taking them to Oxfam
