Cutting Dh hair

tobee · 19/09/2020 23:58

My Dh has been shielding and is very vulnerable. None of us has been to the hairdresser since March at least. Dh's hair now very long.

We've been debating me cutting his hair because we still don't want to use hair salon.

Thing is, I was always really bad at cutting my doll's hair as a child GrinAnd have little confidence.

Any tips for having a go? YouTube videos to watch? Scissors to buy from Amazon?

It won't matter too much if it's not great but I'd prefer not to make him look like a total fool.

Tia.

How short does he want it? Hair clippers with different length guards might be easier

Thanks I thought of that but worried if I messed it up I'd have nowhere to go as it were. Maybe I'm wrong.

I did DH and DS1 during lockdown. It went ok-ish. I have a clippers and also used scissors. There are loads of videos on YouTube. I've done it a good few times but I'm never 100% happy with the results

So @dementedpixie I've just looked at razor shield numbers and that's less worrying than I thought it would be thanks!

I also did DH's during lockdown. I'd managed to get hold of some clippers and I watched lots of videos on YouTube before I had a go. He's still getting me to do it now even though barbers have reopened. It's much easier with clippers than with scissors.

Thanks @N0tfinished. Luckily as he's shielding it doesn't matter if it's a bit rubbish if he's barely going anywhere!

If it's long just clipper it on 4, at least you can laugh if it goes tits up!

he hasn't got much hair these days so I'm worried about it. He's got a sense of humour about it though at least he has at the moment when I'm not cutting it. Grin

Taken plunge and ordered a clipper and some scissors for good measure. Due to arrive Wednesday by which time at least one of us might have whimped out

Use the No.8 guide, and just go all over. 8 is long enough that it won't be a disaster whatever happens Smile

dementedpixie · 20/09/2020 09:10

My dh gets a number 1 all over so its very easy to do. Start with a longer guard and work your way down if required

Thank you @haba and @dementedpixie
