Dry shampoo : am I getting it wrong?

I have thick wavy hair which takes ages to dry

I wash it about twice a week but would love to freshen it up in between

However if I use dry shampoo it just goes gungy and thick and sticky feeling

I think I must be doing something wrong but not sure what. I spray from about 25cm, leave it a bit, try to brush it out ......

I put it in at bedtime then the next morning it looks lime I’ve just washed my hair. Also I find some of the cheap dry shampoos are a bit rubbish and made my hair sticky.

UnaMujer · 19/09/2020 23:52

Not that I use an expensive one but I’ve tried supermarket own brands and they’re rubbish.

TigerDroveAgain · 19/09/2020 23:55

Well I’ve just put some in so will see what it’s like in the morning. It feels vile right nowSad

I use either Batiste or a herbal essences one but I don't tend to spray from that far away: I lift my hair up and get in under the roots. I know that's not the instructions, but it works well for me.

TigerDroveAgain · 19/09/2020 23:57

This is Batiste, so a classic product apparently

Try the grey dry shampoo. I think its called Living Proof. I spray on dry shampoo, wait a few mins, then moosh it around.

I've always found the Batiste one makes my scalp feel dirty and itchy. The Lee Stafford or Living Proof ones are much better. I spray on, make sure you lift hair and get underneith too, leave for a few minutes then rub in.

Dry shampoo is great for freshening up shoes too.
I spray it on at night though i wonder does it contribute to dandruff as mine has worsened.

Klorane dry shampoo is the only one. But they all make your hair feel ick. Klorane is just less ick, and smells better. They're putting powder on your roots to soak up the oil a bit.

25cm sounds too far away, you'll get it all over your hair. You only want to get it on the roots and greasy first inch of hair. Use a pointy stick/comb handle to section partings at 2-3cm intervals (so the parting lines run from hairline back ie parallel to normal parting). Part, spray along the parting from say 10cm away, move across 2-3cm and repeat. Massage it in, don't brush it out. Then just style as you would normally

Klorane is the only one I've found that works well, without stickiness. It's almost as good as a shampoo and gives you at least two days grace.

FunorFitness · 20/09/2020 10:55

I lift up bits of hair and spray it in a short burst at the roots and then use my fingers to really rub it in. It's great for adding volume too.

Thanks all, appreciated

It feels ok ish now, I’ll wash it later anyway. Will try some of those ideas out

Yes I can get an extra day if I use dry shampoo, but it does feel claggy on my scalp and a bit dirty tbh. It looks awful the day after dry shampoo and definitely needs to be washed at that point.

excelledyourself · 20/09/2020 12:55

I second the Lee Stafford recommendation
