Please help me find a tankini/bikini - anything to make me look okay on the beach!

DH, DD and I are off to Egypt in December to celebrate our tenth wedding anniversary and I'm really not feeling confident about appearing on the beach and feeling blobby

I'm 5' 7", 10 stone 7 lb with tiny norks and all my weight around my waist, bum and hips. I'd love to blame DD for weight, but she's almost 17 months now, so I can't DH doesn't like one-piece swim wear, so it needs to be a tankini or bikini.

Any ideas on styles etc will be very gratefully received.

I like the stripes

lissiethevampireslayer · 09/10/2007 09:16

how miuch would you like to spend?

LilBloodRedWantsGore · 09/10/2007 09:18

Thanks Bug - I like the stripes but worry that horizontal stripes will make me look wider

Lissie - no extravagant funds available unfortunately.

Beelzebug · 09/10/2007 09:21

from Next

suwoo · 09/10/2007 09:22

Err, that looks like old lady swimwear.

LilBloodRedWantsGore · 09/10/2007 09:22

Not really me Bug, but thanks.

So plain bottom to minimise bum and patterned halter top to show off fried eggs then?

I hate shopping for swimwear and clothes - I think I must be a freak.

Agree with cod on this one. I'm sure you look fine!

Have a look at figleaves as well. I got a really nice Triumph tankini from there for my holiday, but I have a completely different figure to you (am, abouy 56843 stone and 3ft tall)

IntergalacticWalrus · 09/10/2007 09:24

I thinik monsoon do swimwera in the winter as well. Have a look at thier website

suwoo · 09/10/2007 09:24

The next one is lovely but covers a lot up for the beach. I have a fat arse and find certain hipster shorts do minimise it, so worth trying shorts too.

LilBloodRedWantsGore · 09/10/2007 09:24

Like the Next on Bug - I may have to go and try some on.

Thanks Cod and IW for saying I'm normal.

Do they Suwoo? I've always steered away from shorts as I though they'd make my butt look bigger.

deffo halter

lissiethevampireslayer · 09/10/2007 09:29

this is nice. you have long legs so can get away with these type of bottoms

PoshCod · 09/10/2007 09:29

totally nirmal!

fishie · 09/10/2007 09:29

thing about the shorts is they do tend to end across your widest points ie hip and upper thigh. unless they are a bit longer, sort of 40s look but might be a bit hard to find in october!

i think looking at one of the specialist underwear places like figleaves is a great idea, you want to aim for something nice and solid to give you more confidence. m&s quality not so good. john lewis had some nice sea folly stuff in although a bit £.

LilBloodRedWantsGore · 09/10/2007 09:30

I like that Lissie, but can't wear black with my skin tone - I look dead.
