Suggestions for footwear - walking across fields!

So due to Covid we are in the back entrance of school and now we have a gorgeous walk through wood and fields. Lovely start and we can forget we are actually in London. Anyway I digress - suggestions for footwear? It’s 4 miles a day. There is not much pavement apart from beginning and end. The fields and woods are not proper paths - I’m not trespassing it’s just as it is. I cannot see wellies wearing well or being good for my feet. I have walking boots tbf but Is there such thing looking nice and practical ?!

Proper walking shoes would be best.

I’ve got Salomon and they are so comfy, sturdy and supportive, and really not too heavy or chunky compared to walking boots.

Or you could get something like the country boots from Dubarry.

Not sure you could something really trendy or stylish that’s truly fit for purpose...

Alternatively a good quality chelsea boot with a nice thick sole might suffice and would look good. Especially if you can find a pair that has goretex or otherwise waterproof construction. Timberland might have some.

I recommend Dublin river boots. Or similar. They’re really lovely x

Thank you everyone I shall have a look although I do think Ninkanink is right, maybe I should just embrace a more country look.

I agree with lulu, I had a pair of these that lasted a good couple of years.

I recently invested in a pair of timberlands, and they have been fantastic so far, warm, dry, supporting and comfortable. I wear them to walk the dog over fields and woodland tracks in all weathers and they're doing the job well.

Sounds like my walk. I’ve some new balance 997s and they’ve surprisingly let no water in, even on days when it’s lashing.

Jumbojem · 18/09/2020 23:04

I've bought some sorrel ankle boots (carnival?). They are like chunky high tops but insulated and waterproof.

Florabritannica · 18/09/2020 23:34

Grenson Nanette hiking boots.

Ankle wellies!

vervaininthemembrane · 19/09/2020 06:32

I have Dubarry boots. They are perfect.

Living in the country I’ve found any sort of walking shoes aren’t any use if you’re walking on any grass. Wet/damp grass which is higher than the top of your shoe will lead to wet feet even if the shoes are goretex. The wetness seems to be brushed off the grass and fall down inside your shoe/wick along your trousers onto your socks. With you saying it’s not proper paths I’d avoid shoes unless it’s a dry day (inc no morning dew).

So you need boots of some description. I’ve got some Merrell Puffins which are ok when it’s cold but too hot the rest of the time. So for 80% of the year I wear Dunlop wellies. Very unstylish but they last longer and are more waterproof than any other boot I’ve tried inc more expensive wellies.

JacobReesMogadishu · 19/09/2020 07:13

Oh and Joules welliebobs are useless. My feet have been soaking in every pair I’ve owned.

Track sole boots? www.whowhatwear.co.uk/track-sole-boots-trend

MaidenMotherCrone · 19/09/2020 07:32

Decent wellies will wear well and are comfortable.

Once the weather changes you'll be glad of wellies.

BikeRunSki · 19/09/2020 07:35

You need something higher than ankle height of you will be walking through long grass.

CalmConfident · 19/09/2020 07:36

Proper good wellies - have proper support and well worth the investment. Get to a good country pursuits shop (the sort that sells wax jackets, tweed hats, guns and fishing equipment Grin) and try the different brands on
