Hair loss after baby

I had a baby ten months and expected some hair loss. Spoken to dr etc and been told it's normal and will return. But I have a terrible receding hair line now. I look ridiculous, like I have a massive forehead. I'm taking silica but so far nothing has improved.

I already have very very fine flat hair that I have to put a lot of effort in to if I want volume. Should I get a fringe? Would that at least hide my forehead a bit or just make my hair look thinner? Any recommendations on shampoos?

Fringes that start quite far back can look a little odd sometimes. Could you post a picture so we can see if it would suit?

Do you use any kind of touch up make up on your hairline? It might make you feel a bit better about things while you’re waiting for your hair/scalp to recover. If you look on youtube there are lots of videos on this.

Hi OP.

My hair went through a thinning phase a few years ago. To be honest, I'm not sure if the products I used sorted it, or it sorted itself. I kind of stopped thinking about it and then realised it had improved.

But what I did use was Nioxin, www.nioxin.com/en-GB and supplements from Holland and Barret. I can't be sure which ones, but they have loads.

Good luck.

And yes, to echo PP, don't try the fringe yet. It can emphasise the issue rather than help, in my opinion.

I had this with my last baby OP. I had a hairline like Count Dracula!
It did grow back eventually but through the sparse times I would wear a cotton stretchy head band for day to day and hair fibres to hide the patches when I wanted my hair to look decent.
They're very good and make a big difference.

My hair thinned markedly during both pregnancies and never really recovered the last time so is still thin now some 16 years later. I tend to keep to the same style and grew out my fringe because it seemed to make the thin area more noticeable. Supplements can help so definitely worth trying (I took the hair and nails one from Holland and Barrett among others that I tried) and the caffeine shampoos were recommended to me. Keep an eye on it and if you don't see any improvement ask to be referred to see a specialist.

Thanks for the advice everyone. I'm going to look into some better supplements.

Thanks so much for the recommendation. I bought some and it's great, I can wear a pony without looking like George Costanza.

Ah good OP, they're definitely handy. I'll be ordering again soon no doubt- my latest baby is approaching 4 months and my hair has started to fall out again.

totally normal to lose hair after birth but 1 months on I would expect things to normalise.

Did you have some blood tests? Low iron/low ferritin and an underactive thyroid can all cause excess hairloss. If it is that bad, I would see the GP for some blood tests. There is no point in getting supplements from Amazon if you don't actually know what is causing it.

are you feeling well in yourself otherwise?

10 months on (not 1)
