Let my natural colour come through? Pics

Okay so my natural colour is as you may see from the pics is an an auburn colour. I’ve dyed it various colours over the years but mainly brown, dark brown.

As I’m heading towards 50 I can’t be bothered with the upkeep of the roots. They are quite stubborn to cover anyway. But, people say I suit darker hair though (probably because I’ve had it dark more) I’ve had it lighter before (I don’t suit blonde at at all).

If I was to go back to to my natural colour or as near as, I could just grow out the colour, my hair is long & I want to keep it long, so that will take ages & probably will look daft for a long time, or I’m going to have to get highlights or something aren’t I? I don’t really want to damage my hair with bleach or hair strippers as it’s not in the best condition as it is. Is there a gentle way to lift colour our or what’s this opalex that they mix with bleach when highlighting?

Any ideas? Advice. I don’t want to get it cut!

Buy some headscarves and hats and cover it until it grows out.

I think it's worth getting a hairdresser to match the coloured hair the same as your natural colour.

It's hard to judge when you only have a small amount of root showing

I'd be inclined to let it grow out a bit more before making a decision. If the roots don't look too bad then let the colour grow out naturally. If the roots start to look really obvious and the dye doesn't fade then go to a hairdresser and ask them to colour it as close to your natural shade as possible.

Ehup, I think that’s what I’m going to do, hopefully the dye will wash up a bit more. It’s a permanent dye but they always fade on my hair anyway, I’ve done two vitamin c washes & it’s lifted a bit. It was quite a bit darker.
